KANSAS CITY, Mo. - KCTV5 reports an apartment building in Kansas City, MO. is being sealed off Saturday night, and a source close to KCTV5 says it's because a person who lives there is sick with something contagious. Police at the apartment building told KCTV5 that all or part of the medical facility the person was taken to is now quarantined as well. The person was taken to Rockhill Research Hospital. No one at the hospital will confirm what the person has at this time. We'll continue to follow this developing story, and bring you updates as we get them.

I’m so Ebola-overwhelmed, I can’t remember what this doctor treated in Nebraska, was treated with.

American Dr. treated for Ebola in Nebraska, admitted back in for ‘pink-eye and cough’. They are keeping him until tests come back.

Just wait until it hits one of those highrises in Manhattan or the Bronx. De facto death traps.

You're right, imagine the danger once ISIS starts injecting suicide murderers with ebola and sends them here to kill, to spread the disease, not to be treated but to spread it.

How easy it would be to infect the maids, doormen, etc of big cities who would them bring it into the heart of the white inner cities.

Ho

TB could be it. Or cholera.I believe in the Middle Ages it was called the "sweating sickness, or "the sweat". It was one of their persistent plagues.. 😷

Well, if it’s “contagious” in isn’t Ebola. Cause Ebola ain’t contagious-it’s infectious

That's completely inaccurate...Ebola is both infectious and contagious:

From What's the difference between infectious and contagious

"Infectious diseases are caused by microscopic germs (such as bacteria or viruses) that get into the body and cause problems. Some — but not all — infectious diseases spread directly from one person to another. Infectious diseases that spread from person to person are said to be contagious."

The CDC is reportedly on the way, according to the source.”

If (if) the CDC is on the way it's Ebola. No reason to go there otherwise.

I said a few days ago that I-35 was the perfect route from Dallas to KC. Mr. Mercat and I came back driving from Boston and found a way to avoid StL altogether. No offense but between East StL and Ferguson who needs I-70 anymore. Take HWY 36.

Most of these will be false alarms, but even so they are costing a lot of money compared to just banning aircraft travel from the affected countries.

Yep. I predict 99+% of all the "quarantined with Ebola-like symptoms" cases we'll start hearing about will turn out not to be Ebola.

Are we going to quarantine everyone who pukes and runs a fever? This is how panics start.

Yep, US 36 will take you well north of that area. However, if things continue, that won’t be safe, either. Just remember, it’s not airborne..

I think everybody who travels from those countries should be examined and quarantined here or upon their arrival at the European airport where they transfer to the US bound plane. Personally, I think stopping air traffic from those places would be the cheapest and easiest. But otherwise, go back to the Ellis Island model and quarantine the arrivals.

That said, some lab is working on developing a quick and accurate test for Ebola and hopefully then everyone who has traveled there will be required to take it upon their arrival in Europe or the US.

I'm just dumbfounded that at the very least we did not do this. And now it's here and people are still arriving daily from Ebola hotspots.

It's turning into a "closing the barn door after the horse ran away" scenario. By the time someone in Washington gets serious about restricting and/or screening travelers, we could have already let thousands of infected people into our country.

And the most recent strains of ebola are known to be the same in that regard? I had read that this ebola outbreak showed different patterns than past strains.

Also, if these non-ebola cases are malaria instead, how long before the mosquitos carry malaria here? You can’t quarantine mosquitos.

Exactly. Having endured Ebola, he may very well have a an immune system that is compromised a bit.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Nothing new in the update, however.
