Dallas Ebola patient is in critical condition, hospital says

Dallas (CNN) -- Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States, is now in critical condition, a Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital spokeswoman said Saturday. The Liberian man had previously been listed as being in serious condition. Hospital spokeswoman Candace White offered no new details other than his condition. Earlier, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Duncan was in intensive care. About 10 people are at "higher risk" of catching Ebola after coming into contact with Duncan but have shown no symptoms, health officials said Saturday. The group is among 50 people being monitored daily, but the other 40 are considered "low risk," said Dr. David Lakey, the commissioner of Texas department of state health services. The nine people who had definite contact with the Ebola patient -- including family members and health care professionals -- have been monitored and show no symptoms or fevers, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Saturday." We have already gotten well over 100 inquiries of possible patients," Frieden told reporters. "We've assessed every one of those ... and just this one patient has tested positive ... We expect that we will see more rumors or concerns or possibilities of cases, until there is a positive laboratory test, that is what they are." Health officials did not provide details on the location of those being monitored or where they interacted with Duncan. Monitoring includes a visit from a public health expert and temperature checks twice a day. None of them has had symptoms of Ebola so far, according to Lakey. The latest figure is a drastic reduction of a number that started at 100 after initial talks with Duncan and hospital officials.

"So why is he not being given the drug that saved the other two people who were flown to the US last month?"

If you're referring to the experimental drug that is derived from tobacco plants, apparently there were only a few doses available and they're all gone and it takes quite awhile to make new batches.

So why is he not being given the drug that saved the other two people who were flown to the US last month?

They're not sure that drug saved them. Those other two people (I believe) were doctors. They were taken to the best facilities where they got the very best care imaginable. Transfusions, constant iv hydration, and whatever else they could. In other words, money was no object. Constant attention.

But with Duncan we're closer to how this will really play out. An average hospital doing what it can. Maybe he's getting pretty good care but we know what an average hospital is like. There's no one person that's looking specifically after you.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Will we be told when he croaks, or will we be on the receiving end of another news blackout?

BE PREPARED FOR FORMAL, GOVERNMENT LIES:

"He died from complications NOT related to Ebola".
"We think he had malaria, HIV, TB, etc, and we cannot prove he died of ebola".
"See?! Obamacare is great!"

That is a theory. The Black Death was an Ebola related disease, and Asians and Europeans have a partial immunity

There was a CNN report from a passenger (seat mate ) on the plane from Brussels who said he was very ill on that flight and requested medical assistance.

Also there were reports that he and at least one other took the 19 year old woman around to several hospitals (carrying her in and out) in Liberia and none would accept her, so they took her home. They knew she was not having a miscarriage

No wonder Duncan got out of Liberia. The hospitals are in overload. People will be fleeing these countries to get medical help elsewhere. Hopefully, the contagious period of the Ebola virus happens when the victims are too sick to travel. Otherwise, there needs to be a step up in the screening process with tests that are accurate and give fast results.
