The Smithsonian Institution Announces an Official Climate Change Statement
Smithsonian Mag ^ | 10-2-14 | Saba Naceem

s humans continue to transform the planet at an increasingly rapid rate, the need to inform and encourage change has become ever more urgent. The situation is becoming critical for wild species and for the preservation of human civilization. Recognizing this urgency, the Smithsonian Institution has formulated its first official statement about the causes and impacts of climate change.

With special emphasis on the Smithsonian’s 160-year history and tradition of collection, research and global monitoring, the statement delivers a bold assessment: "Scientific evidence has demonstrated that the global climate is warming as a result of increasing levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases generated by human activities."

"The 500 Smithsonian scientists working around the world see the impact of a warming planet each day in the course of their diverse studies,"reads the statement. "A sample of our investigations includes anthropologists learning from the Yupik people of Alaska, who see warming as a threat to their 4,000-year-old culture; marine biologists tracking the impacts of climate change on delicate corals in tropical waters; and coastal ecologists investigating the many ways climate change is affecting the Chesapeake Bay."

“What we realized at the Smithsonian is that many people think that climate change is just an environmental topic,” says John Kress, acting undersecretary of science at the Smithsonian. “It’s much more than that. Climate change will affect everything.”

So the people who run the Smithsonian felt a need to stake out a liberal position on global warming??? Why???

What is the point of a museum issuing a statement, and letting the world know they are liberal on an issue???

Defund it. Sell off it’s collection to private museums. It demonstrated politics trumps it’s belief in science and honest information.

All these people do is parrot the same old tired platitudes. Thy just keeping lying, lying and lying.

Never mind Climate Gate, never mind of a global cooling

Oh and the evidence these liars NEVER LOOKED AT. Here is the break down.

The actual numbers are ONLY 64 of 11944 papers endorse the stronger position of humans having than more than 50% effect on the 20th Century temperature increase. What’s that less than 1%??? So that means most Scientist do not agree or 97% of actual scientist believe man is NOT responsible for climate change.

National Geographic, Smithsonian, PBS, etc. I send all their begging literature back to them notifying them that I will not support them or their Global Warming hysteria.

There again, no clue that there may be benefits to a warming trend. Just threats. This, alone, demonstrates that they are in policy promotion mode rather than stating a scientific assessment.

These idiots jumped the shark long ago. I’ll never forget visiting one year (maybe late 80s?) and one exhibit had the word “MANKIND” as part of the description.

Anyhow, the word “MANKIND” had a strike through it and the Smithsonian had written next to it on a seperate plaque: “Stamp out sexism in science”.

No lie.

Why is the Smithsonian releasing some statement instead of encouraging public debate on the subject?

They are a perfect forum for an open, thorough debate.

What do you say Smithsonian? Didn't think so.

I’ll never forget the time I took my kids to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. 2 things that occured that blew my mind:

1. They actually had an old exhibit that read “warming earth leads to advances in civilization”. The area was roped off and was in the process of being remodeled. Hiding the truth I guess... but at least we got to see what science was like before the polictics kicked in.

2. They had an exhibit showing the size of the ice sheets in antarctica vs the arctic. It mentioned that something like 90% of all ice in the world is in the antarctic while only 10% is in Greenland and the north.

I told my kids, I’ll give them %50 of a dollar if they give me just %10 of $9. My kids said “No way, that means you get more! We would be getting 50 cents while you would be getting 90 cents!” I replied:”now you understand that when someone says the arctic has lost %50 of its ice, but the antarctic has “only” gained %10 that....

and with that they laughed and said “wow-liberals are good at fudging”
