The car that transported Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan to the hospital is wrapped in plastic on Friday as a hazmat team prepared to clean the apartment in Dallas where he had been staying. Hazmat trucks pulled up outside the apartment, five days after he was admitted to the hospital and days after relatives, including children, were confined there by state officials.

The survival of filoviruses in liquids, on solid substrates and in a dynamic aerosol.
Our study has shown that Lake Victoria marburgvirus (MARV) and Zaire ebolavirus (ZEBOV) can survive for long periods in different liquid media and can also be recovered from plastic and glass surfaces at low temperatures for over 3 weeks. The decay rates of ZEBOV and Reston ebolavirus (REBOV) plus MARV within a dynamic aerosol were calculated. ZEBOV and MARV had similar decay rates, whilst REBOV showed significantly better survival within an aerosol.
At 4ºC, the virus becomes stable. Imagine someone is ill on their way to the hospital in January. Say it is a city like Chicago and the infected vomits at a bus stop. The vomit is full of virus and now preserved in the cold.
We are in much worse shape than Africa. Outdoor and transportation fomites in northern urban centers will become a very major disease vector and contact tracing will become ineffectual.

That car is the older Korean model silver compact, that was sprayed with the pressure washer. You can see it in the upper left corner of this earlier photo:
It looks to have some black plastic tarp on the hood, possibly the roof. The car that was used to transport Duncan to the hospital is a late model silver Toyota Corolla, and it's shown in the same photo more completely wrapped with black plastic tarp.
So, it appears that two different silver compacts were wrapped in black plastic tarp to me. Also note that their heads and faces are not covered, they didn't fully suit up in hazmat gear.

So someone has driven the car since the guys power washed around it.

In the advanced cases the diarrhea is so bad they will pass out the lining of their intestines.

I see. Thanks for the photo and clarification.
Guess these guys don’t think this is too serious to not fully suit up.

Yes, painters tape. It isn’t wrapped in plastic either, just a sheet of plastic draped over it and marginally held in place temporarily with some tape.
I wanted to see a shrink wrapped pic, never sen one done.
Yes, it does need to be burned

Looks as if it was done for show to calm the panicky masses to me. That or they’re stupid, if there’s live virus in or on that car. There’s another photo showing somebody in yellow hazmat suit standing on a black plastic tarp with another guy touching the boots in between the two cars.

“Cleaning Guys” gotta love it. Just the name projects professionalism and competency.

i gotta say the way this is being handled by the cdc and powers that be, i think theyve been ordered to let this become a pandemic. Disease "Control" can no longer be assumed to mean *prevention*. Just some more of that fundamental transformation.

I can’t believe it. First it’s not covered fully, and it looks like any decent sized wind could blow it off.
Second, since UV is used in Level 4 decontamination, shouldn’t that plastic wrap be clear to help with the disinfectant process?

Job: Done!
Good enough for government work at any rate.
Must’ve been getting close to 4:30 - prolly why the Hefty bags were used with painter’s tape.
I love how they left the roll of tape on the car. You know, in case one of the bags gets a rip in it ( those trash bags always break when you take out the trash)
Safety first!

Pick any two:
1. It was done for show to calm the panic
2. They know there is no live virus there to be concerned about
3. They don’t know what they’re doing.

Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
