The U.S. unemployment rate is below 6% for the first time in more than six years.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday morning, Oct. 3, that the economy added 248,000 jobs in September, pushing the unemployment rate down to 5.9% from 6.1% in August. The unemployment rate hadn’t been below the 6% mark since July 2008, according to BLS historical data.

Employment increased most strongly in professional and business services, retail trade and health care, the government said.

The government said the number of people unemployed in September declined by 329,000 to 9.3 million. During the last year, the U.S. unemployment rate has fallen by 1.3 percentage points, from 7.2% in September 2013, and the number of people unemployed has dropped by 1.9 million.

The payroll employment gain of 248,000 in September exceeded the average monthly gain of 213,000 over the prior 12 months.

BLS said professional and business services added 81,000 jobs in September, compared with an average gain of 56,000 per month over the prior 12 months. Employment in retail trade rose by 35,000 in September. Health care added 23,000 jobs in September, in line with the prior 12-month average gain of 20,000 jobs per month.

The report indicated that the previous two months look better, too, from a job-creation perspective.

Meanwhile, the labor participation rate has dropped to a 36 year low.

Cause meet effect.

I share your amusement. I wonder how some people can wake everyday, trundle to the bathroom, use the toilet, open the medicine cabinet, grab a bottle of government urine and entusiastically gargle and swallow the piss they will serve later that day to the zero-information crowd.

How do these people sleep?

Well, whores when they are done with a nights work, apparently must sleep as well.

Seriously though, what if you woke up in the morning and looked in the mirror and you were valerie jarret or chrissy matthews?

Would that not be a hellish event?

Or not. This pusbag article is satanic deception fostered by his imps.

If a Republican was in the White House the MSM would be raking him over the coals for 5.9% unemployment.

Nope, the BLS like most feral agencies are run by leftists for leftists. If an R was in the WH, the unemployment would be running 9% or 10% month to month, with pre-election upswings, as the employment participation rate *increases*, causing the "October Surprise" to be upticks in unemployment.

Thanks. That’s what I wondered, what the unemployment rate would be, if they had not changed the way they calculate it.

A repub aqdmin needs a new number, and not let it get confused with the current fantasy number. Maybe call it “TU” for true unemployment. Then translate all past numbers to the TU number so the MSM won’ say that there was a jump in unemployment when the adults took over.

Publish a full set of numbers, graphs, average job salary for each new job, etc.,

BTW, TU also is a term that refers to “dead”, maybe a poor choice?

RE: I am still unemployed.

Two questions:

1) For how long?

2) Which state in the country do you live in?

The unemployment rate hadn’t been below the 6% mark since July 2008

***************
I told my wife last nigh that the number would be 5.9%.
Coming just one month from the election, this was an easily predictable October Surprise. Of course, the number is a complete fabrication but it will serve its purpose of giving Dem senate candidates the talking point they desperately needed to convince gullible voters that the economy is doing great.

Imagine if a Republican administration had reported a sudden decline in the rate like this one. The Left would be going insane.

Labor Force Participation is now at the lowest rate since 1978:

The labor force participation rate is the percentage of working-age persons in an economy who:

Typically "working-age persons" is defined as people between the ages of 16-64. People in those age groups who are not counted as participating in the labor force are typically students, homemakers, and persons under the age of 64 who are retired. In the United States the labor force participation rate is usually (average in the past) around 67-68%.

Bring back American Ebola victims.

We need things to do in America, bringing back American Ebola victims would bring us jobs.

In fact, bring back all Ebola victims. It will lower our unemployment.

Bring back Ebola victims now.
