God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

I make no admission to the canard you propose knowing it to be a lie.

You grant that the votes could be staged, yet refuse to admit that the multitudinous repeal votes combined with the readiness of the funding doesn't indicate, at least a little, that the elites of the Republican party have little to no problem with ObamaCare?

Please explain this to me then.

Odd then that the post you called me a faggot on a topic free of gay anything got deleted. .

And I’m the bigot?

Nah. But you are a fraud. And an admitted ‘queer’. Too late to retract the unforced error.

Other sources disagree with you about Cruz meeting the NBC requirement for either office. That is a simple search and you and I not going resolve it in these comments.

I've done a few searches; but let's be honest, after Obama there's a lot of crap out there on the issue. (And we know the courts cannot be trusted on the issue, ObamaCare showed us that.)

It would be foolish to bump Perry, poser or not. He is more of a conservative asset than GOPe asset. There are several other governors that took some time to mature but I think would make good choices as well as Walker or Pence.

Perhaps you are right.
I admit I am usually harsh in my judgments, Perry rubs me the wrong way — I see him as more of the same old all talk GOP-ers.

You may also be discounting Perry too early. Ebola may ignite an inferno beneath his posterior region.

Maybe I am.
I don't think Ebola will do it; the southern border invasion is more than enough — and more legally justifiable than any emergency caused by Ebola, as presented in Texas's own Constitution the governor's military power is plain and explicit.

agreed fully. its just that when the alternative is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad, treasonous (but can an illegal alien foreign agent be prosecuted for treason?)

if the D alternative was just almost any regular type of D, ranging anywhere from HST to JFK to even LBJ alas, I would stay home
as you suggest

extreme times make for difficult choices. my choice if the candidate is another enemy foreign agent type... is to vote for whatever R candidate is run against him...........even tho I may have to hold my nose doing it

just my 2 cents worth. take or flush it as you wish.
I can’t really hope to convince anybody of this viewpoint, given the very disappointing R candidates of recent times

I do understand

agreed fully.

Thank you.

its just that when the alternative is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad, treasonous

There's a slight problem here — the alternative implies a binary choice, but there's more than just Democrat to vote for.

(but can an illegal alien foreign agent be prosecuted for treason?)

Perhaps; the definition says:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
It makes no mention of the person's nationality, allegiance, citizenship, etc.

if the D alternative was just almost any regular type of D, ranging anywhere from HST to JFK to even LBJ alas, I would stay home as you suggest

Excuse me, but I've not suggested staying at home – anywhere.
I want people voting; but I don't want them voting "because the other guy's worse" — they should vote for somebody.
(Even if that person has no chance of winning, vote for someone.)

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.John Quincy Adams

extreme times make for difficult choices. my choice if the candidate is another enemy foreign agent type... is to vote for whatever R candidate is run against him...........even tho I may have to hold my nose doing it

And there's where we break off; I will never vote while holding my nose again. I did that in 2008 and, to my shame, voted for McCain — I promised myself I would never again hold my nose and when 2012 came around that promise saved me from the shame of voting Romney.

just my 2 cents worth. take or flush it as you wish.
I can’t really hope to convince anybody of this viewpoint, given the very disappointing R candidates of recent times

Aye — the recent Republican party actions are, quite frankly, despicable and show the party to be of negative worth when it comes to most of the party's planks.

RE:”keep preachin Brothers, but i fear the circular firing squad of the “R” guys will soon be stalking you...”

Just to be clear, do they sound like this?

So you are one of them?
Those who sat by and let Obama win by refusing to vote.
I hope you are happy with Obama, it was your non-vote that pushed him over BOTH times. His 8 years are your fault.
You delusional idealists make me sick.
You are traitors, Its all your fault.,You can all go to hell.

A familiar song!

Now why can’t the GOP Party Loyalists sound like that instead of joining McConnell and Boehner and the Ruling Class in waging war against Conservatives who will no longer compromise and abandon principles to vote for a person who is decidedly NOT a Conservative?

Thanks for that.

Such discourse engenders an acceptance of the conscious decision each of us has to make without belittling and insulting those who will not betray their principles to vote (or not vote) for those who are running for office with a certain letter after their name.

Sadly, some think that “admonishment” and ridicule and outright threats can convince or shame others into voting for the party candidate they support.

You have demonstrated a better way that does not divide and alienate.

Yes!

I know the lyrics to that old song and threat by heart!

They re-record that old song to a new beat…… down - every election cycle now.

It’s become the defacto national Anthem of the GOP.

>> Solution is simple. GOP-E puts up Conservative candidates, and we conservative voters will vote in droves. <<

News to Mike Enzi and Pat Roberts. They both have rock solid impeccable conservative voting records, and a bunch of conservative despise them simply because they're elderly incumbents and don't scream "TEA PARTY!!!" at the top of their lungs. In Enzi's case, a bunch of self-appointed "Tea Party leaders" even happily endorsed a primary challenger who was to his LEFT.

it is fascinating just how many people have commented on this thread! I can’t recall seeing such high participation on any thread, tho I may have overlooked some.

this shows just how frustrated many Americans are, methinks. The D party has been taken over by (for lack of a better phrase) enemy agents (both foreign and domestic). It used to be that you COULD, if you wished, vote for a D candidate... without too much fear that he planned to deliberately destroy as much as he could...of America, America’s allies, and our Judeo-Christian values and faith traditions. Yes, D candidates might not have agreed with us on a number of important issues, but most of them (to be fair, I think) did not set out with a “destroy America and the Church” agenda.
So, you COULD vote for either R or D without fearing outright sedition.

On the other hand, today’s R party is nominating very weak candidates (McCain spent most of his time reassuring us we could vote for Obama, that Obama was both capable and a good man, etc.). Whatever McCain may have stood for in his own right, incessant shilling for the opposition candidate is hardly an effective winning strategy for a political campaign.
Romney spent at least half his time (as he did need to do) disavowing Obamacare and promising to repeal it (as if a President CAN repeal a law). At least he recognized his chief weakness (Romneycare) and addressed it. What he failed to do was to critique or question his opponent. Obama was politically vulnerable on at least a half-dozen major issues... but hardly a peep out of Gov. Romney.
A total waste of a nomination... a candidate (for all his various plusses and minuses) who fails to actually bring the campaign to his opponent. Not quite a shill for Obama like McCain, but still a losing NON-campaign of a strategy.

Anyway, I would vote for Romney again, if Obama or Hillary (Obama in drag) were on the ballot. I would not be happy, not at all. Romney’s campaigning needs a Costco-sized bottle of political Viagra .. to have even half-a chance of winning anything more than the Office of Dog Catcher.

Voting for a candidate I like.. but who has zero chance...a minor party candidate maybe not even on many states’ ballots, a candidate without a real campaign fund or staff...or one that almost nobody else will even consider (right or wrong).... might make me feel good but I’d rather vote for almost anybody who CAN (maybe) beat Obama/Hillary.
I think America will not survive any more Obama
Hillaries.

Just my thoughts. I will avoid further posting as my thoughts don’t matter all that much ... and I am not really trying to persuade anyone. I did tell the last R party fundraiser (caller) to stuff it. I did it nicely, explaining the above, basically, I was tactful. But I made clear I will not give them one thin dime until they at least start considering a wider spectrum of their available candidate pool ... I’ll be damned if I’m gonna give them any money to run another leftist or “moderate” who won’t, or doesn’t even know how to, campaign.

Money is better spent in a 1,000 different ways, from gifts to good charities all the way to admission tickets at the local porno movie palace.

Better to watch Deep Throat than to BE Deep Throated (at my expense!) by the Republican central committee.

Cheers, all.

No, seriously. There’s a thread from a couple days ago where Boehner said he’d never even talked to Ted.

What might prompt him to say that? Did his Chamber of Commerce buds question his loyalty to the Amnesty Coalition?

Why did the Third-in-Line even mention Ted?

My impression is some reporter asked him ‘How do you feel about Ted Cruz assembling his own coalition within the House? Do you support that?’

Given the Osteenification of the church in America, the concept of repentance I am told is Old Testament and was replaced by Grace.

I've heard the devil's greatest work is to convince folks that he doesn't exist.

I think the second must be as you've pointed out here:

"A loving God surely wouldn't send someone to hell..."

Don’t put a liberal in with an R by his name and expect a conservative to vote for him/her. It will not happen.

The GOP for the most part is a complete joke. All they do is bend over and grab their ankles to the Democrats.

No the GOP leadership are ones that are going to have to think seriously about this.

If they run another wimp like McCain or Romney, then you can 100% guarantee a loss!

If the GOP runs a conservative, then they have a chance.
