Retailers called on to ban guns in stores
WTNH New Haven ^ | September 30th, 2014 | Mark Davis

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Should malls and stores ban the carrying of firearms? Connecticut’s two U.S. Senators are calling on the nation’s retailers to voluntarily ban guns in the name of public safety.

A new FBI report indicates that there is an ‘active shooter’ incident in this country now about once in every three weeks and nearly half of those incidents occur in malls, stores and other businesses.

The ‘Target’ department store chain made headlines this summer when they asked their gun owning customers to leave guns at home while shopping saying firearms create an environment at odds with family friendly shopping.

“The reality is that we have data showing a disturbingly high level of mass shootings in retail establishments,” said U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D) Conn.

Connecticut’s two U.S. Senators Tuesday called on other retailers to join ‘Target’ in making the same request. Pointing to an FBI report showing active shooter incidents on the increase in areas of commerce.

“It documents and demonstrates not only an epidemic of gun violence but the increasing incidence of mass shooting in this country,” said Sen. Dick Blumenthal (D) Conn. gun in store

“What we are trying to do is puncture a hole in the gun industry’s argument that everyone in this country needs to be armed at all times in order to protect themselves,” added Murphy.

But the head of the state’s largest 2nd Amendment rights group was ready to poke holes in their argument.

“It’s important to note that during the most recent public profile shootings that the majority of the locations where most causalities were inflicted were zones that banned the carrying of firearms,” said Scott Wilson who is President of the 15,000+ member Connecticut Citizens Defense League.

Murphy and Blumenthal point to a picture of a many carrying what appears to be a semi automatic rifle at a ‘Kroger’s’ supermarket in Texas as a reason to urge that company to ban carrying firearms.

“There are no documented results indicating that the public is more endangered from the public carrying firearms either openly or concealed,” added Wilson.

Murphy, Blumenthal and 5th District Democratic Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty today called on the National Retail Federation to adopt policies that prevent the open carrying of firearms in stores across the country.

I call on these two senators to sign public documents stating that they will accept personal financial liability, indemnifying anyone harmed in places that join their gun ban.

They’re conflating lawful carry with mass murder. Stay classy, liberals.

Why do they pretend this will stop criminals?

The fact is they want citizens to be defenseless.

The FBI was corrupted during the Clinton Administration and their corruption and decline in standards has increased dramatically during Obama’s tenure. Same with the Secret Service. They’re all political now.

John Lott was on “Coast-to-Coast” AM last night debunking this so-called FBI report.

Also, an armed good guy in Oklahoma the other day shot the knife-wielding muzzie and prevented him from killing more than one innocent person. What do the two idiots from Connecticut have to say about that?

Why not just ask the active shooters to leave their guns at home? :-)

When US Senators make the request it always includes the unspoken caveat “or else...”

Have you taken a good look at your local mall cops lately? Feeling secure yet?

“Banning shoplifting has worked out pretty well.”

It works well for most people, I’m sure the firearms ban will do as well.

I'm absolutely certain these ‘active shooters’ would not have brought their guns into the mall had they just seen the sign.

You should be OK if you follow the same directions they give to women now to avoid rape, stab them with a ball point pen and piss on ‘em.

Libtard politician answer to everything - Make a law.

(They even made a law one time to make the value of pi exactly equal to three for the sake of school kids.)

As I said many times, they want to take guns from the non-violent, law-abiding citizens and deliberately leave them in the hands of violent criminals.

For those who did not see it, Defense Distributed is taking pre-orders or a CNC mill that will turn an 80% AR-15 lower blank into a lower receiver ready to be outfitted with butt stock and trigger assembly to turn it into a fully functional lower receiver. All that is needed is an AR upper.

If you can legally own a firearm this method of building your own AR is legal in accordance with the Feds. Your state laws may vary. The only fed stipulation is that you can not transfer the firearm (lower receiver part).

“A new FBI report indicates that there is an ‘active shooter’ incident in this country now about once in every three weeks and nearly half of those incidents occur in malls, stores and other businesses.”

All the more reason for citizens to have the right to carry firearms anywhere they go. The alternatives are that those who break the law will have weapons anyway and that if only government has weapons we are even more at risk. Disaming the citizenry so only the government has arms is what this is all about anyway.

“As far as I am concerned the FBI has lost its credibility.”

The federal government and most of my state government (Mississippi) has lost credibility.

My 380 mousegun is smaller than my wallet. The only places that ban guns are the places I won’t go.
