Eric Holder’s exit leaves a complicated vacuum to fill
Washington Times ^ | September 30, 2014 | Ruth Marcus

Posted on 10/01/2014 4:37:47 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".....Why wasn’t the White House, which knew for months that Eric H. Holder Jr. was itching to leave, ready to roll with a successor? More important, given Holder’s foot inching toward the door, why did it not time this departure more intelligently — rather than having it arrive just before an election and the prospect of Democrats losing control of the Senate?

Once again, this being baseball playoff season, can’t anybody here play this game? After six years, apparently not.

These questions matter not because of what they tell us about the Holder situation but because of what they say about President Obama and the operation he oversees.

For a year, the president knew that Holder wanted out. But, I am told, Obama thought he could convince the attorney general to stay. Holder is one of the few Cabinet secretaries whom the president wants to spend time with. Insularity combined with arrogance bred a belief that the brewing problem of Holder’s departure would not materialize.

But it did, and with exquisitely bad timing. The Senate has left town. A lame-duck Congress could act, but, especially if the election goes in the dismal direction it seems to be heading for Democrats, the president’s leeway is considerably constrained.

Adding to the poor timing is the poor planning. Failing to have a choice in place adds to the prospect that confirmation will have to await the next, likely more hostile Congress....

....The next attorney general won’t be a crusader. Instead, he or she will spend time fending off congressional investigations and enduring hearings. The instinct of an embattled president is to name a loyalist. Ironically, the best protection may come from choosing a nominee with enough independence to do that job effectively."

It needs to be someone ready to roll with this administration's PARDONS list.

I fully expect the next AG to be a crusading extremist who flicks away Congress’s pretend investigations. This next AG will also be Obama’s first choice, passed through a lame-duck Congress.

The timing was perfect for Obama.

I think he is ready to roll with a successor. But he will play this out to make it look like he’s evaluated many people. Plus, a nationwide search will add to our many distractions.

Ever notice how, if you are a Democrat, resigning means no subpoenas or indictments for all the stuff you were doing wrong while you held the seat? Investigations just stop.

I’ll check my dogs schedule...I’m pretty sure that in between licking himself, scratching, and barking at the UPS guy he could do a much better job than EH.

After 5 1/2 years of sneering at Americans, demeaning the Congress and US institutions, misusing the power of his office to advance his own agenda---Eric Holder resigned.

Now some have asked if there's a sinister and strategic plan behind the move...... at this critical time for our country.... and for his buddy Obama.

Actually, Holder is quitting b/c he's going in for bowel surgery.

Seems that everytime Holder had to enforce a law, he got constipated---so much so he got addicted to Metamucil.

Now his system is shot to hell---he's getting a pacemaker implanted in his sphincter muscle.

Holder's taking the word ***hole to new heights of meaning.

Complicated vacuum? Valerie Jarrett has probably had the new AG penciled in for months, it not years. They're evil, not incompetent.

Complicated vacuum? Are hyper partisan racists that hard to find?

Hyper partisan Democrats are a dime a dozen. Reid would have no problem pushing through a confirmation in the lame duck session. But any leftwing Democrat who has dreams of someday being nominated for the Supreme Court would probably want to steer clear of having “two years of stonewalling Congress to obstruct investigations into the Obama scandals” as the most prominent item on his or her resume.

He may repeat the Clinton strategy of tossing out a couple of nominees with problems who then have to be withdrawn. Putting pressure on Congress to confirm SOMEBODY (i.e. Janet Reno)

Not complicated at all. Eric Holder goes into exile and becomes an expatriate, never to return to the territory once known as “the United States of America”, and severs all ties with any non-Muslim government.

Even Communist China would not tolerate the low achieving and doctrinaire ideologue. Muslims countries would know how to treat him.

It would take Eric Holder about 15 minutes to run afoul of Shari’ah law. Not quite as malleable as US Constitutional law.

Why? Surely bigoted incompetents are a dime a dozen in DC. If not, drop a dime to Al Sharpton. If he can’t cover it, he’s got every two-bit racist boob in the country on speed dial. He’ll hook ya up.

Obama’s so-called justice department is one big vacuum. Just like Obama, one big empty head and empty suit.

Not that this means much, but Deval has denied to the Boston papers last week that he’s interested in the AG job.

It’s not that I believe anything Deval says, but that it’s clear he has aspirations for national office. I could see a Hillary or Warren/Patrick Dem ticket as a possibility.

It’s tough to do the politicking involved if you’re busy as AG.

They will name the successor a few days or a week before the election...it will be some AA type...odds on favorite is that it will be a sodomite.
