WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - The Firearm Safety Act of 2013 is hitting its one-year mark in Maryland, and a local gun shop owner says sales have increased significantly since the law went into effect.

Parker Bandy, owner of Antietam Firearms, said he knew it would take about a year for people to come around.

"Now they accepted it, we're helping them get their HQL (handgun qualification license)," Bandy said. "We're helping them get what they seek, because what they're after is personal protection. That what we're all about here."

Before getting a handgun license in Maryland, you now have to go through training, get fingerprinted and go through a background check with State Police.

The people voted for the tyrants who gave them this law.

Not surprised. Anyone you run into with a ‘unkempt’ beard, you’d better be packing some ‘heat’ with you! This is what it’s come down to.

I don’t believe in firearm safety. It’s against my religion. Can I get an exemption?

Here in California, you have to take a short written “exam” at the gun shop where upon you are issued a “Handgun Safety Certificate” which costs nothing ( as I recall) and is good for five years. The exam basically tries to see if you know the basics of how to handle both a revolver and a pistol. Then you are able to purchase both handguns and long guns subject to a ten day waiting period ( which has recently been declared unconstitutional by a Federal Judge in Fresno and which will be implemented within the next 6 months. Beyond that, the US 9th Circuit Court has ruled CA’s CCW law also unconstitutional, but that is being challenged by the State. No matter how that turns out, the end result will go to the SCOTUS, because if it stands, CA will become a “Shall Issue State.” Heads in Sacto. are exploding along with those in Hawaii, because the ruling will affect their gun laws as well.

Wisconsin, go to a store, buy a gun. Rifles, take them home today, handguns, wait 48 hours due to the F-—ing democrats, the take the gun home. No fingerprints, no BS, as long as you can pass the Brady Bill background check.

Or find a private seller and buy your gun.

I carry a CWP and can get a handgun in about fifteen minutes at any gun show. Private even faster.

I’d like for all you good conservatives in Maryland to consider moving to a blue Patriot state. Lots of great southern food, plenty of like-minded people and we feed the gators liberals after Friday night football.

Drop in...

A decade ago, I bought a handgun in Maryland. I went to Atlantic Arms in Silver Spring, chose a sale-priced Taurus 92 FS SS, watched a 15-20 minute video on gun safety, got my handgun purchase permit after that, filled out all the forms, paid for the gun, which came with an used shell case, and left.
I picked it up after the 7 day waiting period.

The new laws don’t materially change that, except to make it even more expensive for the people to purchase guns - as though that’s somehow going to prevent some gangbanger from Baltimore or Prince Georges from getting a gun. It will keep their law-abiding, but poor, neighbors from getting one, though.

Oh, and that used shell case? Not one case has used an empty shell case as part of the evidence against a criminal.

“The new laws don’t materially change that, except to make it even more expensive for the people to purchase guns”

Here in CA it’s going to be interesting to see how the judge’s ruling on the ten day waiting period plays out. He reasoned that with the exception of first-time handgun purchasers, making people who already own one or more other handguns wait 10 days is simply stupid if the “reason” is to keep someone from perpetrating a crime of passion right after leaving the gun store. It’s like frisking airline pilots for weapons, it makes absolutely no sense. The really idiotic thing here in CA is that you have to wait exactly ten days to the second to pick up your purchase. and if you fail to claim your purchase within 30 days (again to the second) your purchase is summarily “cancelled” and you have to start all over again.
