Following footage released by the Yamam elite counter-terrorism police unit showing the operation which killed the Hamas terrorists behind the brutal kidnap and murder of three Israeli teens in June, the IDF has released its own footage from the operation.

After a determined hunt for the killers - Marwan Kawasmeh and Amer Abu-Eisha - Shin Bet security services tracked them down to a compound in Hevron, not far from where the bodies of their victims, Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Sha'ar and Naftali Frenkel, were dumped.

After sealing off the house and attempting to arrest them, the terrorists opened fire - and were subsequently shot dead

Sidebar - this Israel friendly site is blocked at my work. We use DNS, which essentially lets my workplace pick categories that it wants to block, and all subscribers to DNS essentially vote on which sites fit in what categories.

This Israeli news site is blocked - meaning the universe of subscribers has voted to categorize it as violent or sexual. Same with Rush’s site, and of course any gun related site.

Anyway, this means an organized group of people has taken the effort to malign this site. As a test, I tried to get onto the Palestine news site - and it was not blocked.

Little things, small increments...it can make up into down, left into right, and make Israel ‘bad’.

I don’t think I explained this correctly. My IT people choose from a menu of categories to block. But a much larger group of DNS subscribers from around the nation vote on which site goes into what category. It is this much larger group that has incorrectly categorized Israeli news as either porn or violent. It points to a concerted effort ti use dns to de-legitimize certain web sites.

Everybody on the internet uses DNS. You must be using some hacked form of DNS. The answer is to use an unhacked DNS, like most of the net.

No one should have a say on what's in DNS.

All subscribers have a say in how DNS categorizes sites. Its not hacked...that the way it works.

DNS stands for Domain Name System, a basic part of the internet's plumbing. It's how domain names get translated into IP addresses, e.g., www.israelnationalnews.com => 195.60.232.74.

I am talking about OpenDNS....which is a web filtering service. It tags each IP with things like ‘pornographic’ or ‘violent’. And subscribers like my company have the option to block some tags...but not all tags.

And subscribers are encouraged to bring IPs up for evaluation, and a vote, to determine which tags apply. It sort of lets the subscribers do all the work in finding new web sites.

Somewhere they have a ‘tester’, where you can enter a website, and see what it is tagged with. I’ll look for it and try it with the Israeli news site.

Ah, OpenDNS is indeed a hacked DNS server. The hack being how it enforces its filtering, LOL! A filtered DNS is by definition a hacked DNS!

On May 13, 2007, OpenDNS launched a domain-blocking service to block or filter web sites visited based upon categories, allowing control over the type of sites that may be accessed. The filters can be overridden through individually managed blacklists and whitelists. In 2008 OpenDNS changed from a closed list of blocked domains to a community-driven list allowing subscribers to suggest sites for blocking; if enough subscribers (the number has not been disclosed) concur with the categorization of the site it is added to the appropriate category for blocking. As of 2011^[update] there were over 50 categories. The basic OpenDNS service does not require users to register, but using the block/filter feature requires registering and logging in.^[11]

So, the solution is to configure your machine to use a non-hacked DNS server, as I suggested in #3.

I don't have a sign-in (obviously), but the response I got categorizes the site accurately and does not appear to indicate it should be censored. Nonetheless, censorship is unAmerican!
