After six decades on this Earth, I am now resolutely and most positively convinced there really is no cure for some folks among us hopelessly and terminally afflicted with stupidity.
I'm talking here about the sources for a few really nutty online comments in response to a brief story I read last week about an ad put together by a PAC that's pro-U.S. Sen. Al Franken.
In the ad mailing, David Wheeler, the father of one of the 20 Sandy Hook elementary school kids gunned down by a deranged shooter two years ago in Connecticut, recounts that his son appeared to be coming down with a case of the sniffles the morning of the massacre.
"When my wife asked me if he should go to school, I said he would be fine," he is quoted as saying in the ad. "I own that now."
He added in the ad that he supports Franken's attempts to pass "common sense" gun laws. Yet, the slaughter of elementary school kids that dark day has become just another political football for an impotent and NRA-fearing Congress to kick around without concrete solutions. I don't even think a heaven-forbid-similar-slaughter of the innocents at a maternity ward will collectively move us any closer to a more sober and effective course of action

Trust in Al Franken. Yep, that’s the ticket.
Rosario...
Pffffttt.
The left always uses adjectives that are manipulative. ‘Common sense’ means, if you don’t agree with us, you have no common sense. Obama does this ALL THE TIME. Giffords gun control PAC is called ‘Americans for Responsible Solutions’, which the low info voters will translate as ‘i am not a responsible American if I disagree with gun control’. Obama refers to ‘all Economists or all Climate Scientists’ who ALWAYS agree with Obama’s positions. He just lies but the LIVs believe him because he Occupies the White House. We are a woefully uneducated population, but well indoctrinated in Lib ways.
I am sorry for your loss, but your pain and anguish does not trump my God given rights.
If the dead adults at Sandy Hook could have a do-over, you can bet they’d prefer to protect the kids with a gun instead of using their bodies as shields.
amen.
Ruben forgets the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
Almost without exception, mass shootings occur in gun-free zones.
We already have 35,000 gun laws in the USA. Which of them is not "common sense?" How many thousands more gun laws do we need?
Making it selfish is not a way to win an argument like this.
What could well be said was that if CT schools had been better guarded, the deranged shooter wouldn’t have gotten very far, if at all.
Was he looking in the mirror when he came to this conclusion, a sudden self examination and realization?
None of them are "common sense". All of them are unconstitutional. Not only does Article 1 not authorize the Congress to pass "gun control" laws, the Second Amendment explicitly forbids it. "Common sense" doesn't even enter the picture.
That hope got left in the dust long long ago.
Some the during the time I have been away from At. Paul, there has been no change to the Pioneer Pravda.
Knowing where Ruben lives, dollars to donuts he’s armed to the teeth.
Look at how many people die in alcohol-related car crashes every year.
I don’t see Rosario calling for the ban on the sale and possession of beer, wine, or hard liquor (nor should he).
“Gun control” would be the equivalent of making it harder for sober people to purchase automobiles.
A sane person does not blame himself for not considering that a case of the sniffles might develop into acute maliciously-induced cranial hemorrhaging. If one did, nobody would drive anywhere ever.
This article’s author is a douchbag.
“Hope”???
It’s long past time we picked the Constitution out of the dust and started using it.
“You and what army”
Without the power of the Lord it is hopeless, and frankly you will not find a lot of support for 2nd Amendment among the spiritual, it is not in the fundamental class of God given rights.
In the end, the gospel will conquer far more than guns can.
Your experience is different from mine.
it is not in the fundamental class of God given rights.
I do not agree with that at all.
the gospel
Is of greatest importance.
