"That bigoted idiot Malaki refused to sign a Status of Forces Agreement that allowed us to try our own military personnel in case of law breaking."

Funny, I don't think his negotiation partner in the deal was pushing too hard. Obama wanted out of there. That was the excuse to get out. The SOFA agreement could have been worked out if Malaki had a reliable partner.

I thought the SOFA was signed under Bush.

"I thought the SOFA was signed under Bush."

Once a recognized government was in place, yes Bush signed a SOFA agreement. However, it was good only until 2011 when we were supposed to sign a new SOFA. That was the date set at which it was believed that the surge would no logner be needed and so a re-evaluation of what forces would be needed and rules be put in place. The Bush administration figured that at the point we could have all troops out except perhaps 10,000 but it would be assessed at that time.

I believe in 2011 that the Generals had originally recommended somewhere around 20,000 troops which Obama promptly rejected. They then came back with a 10,000 estimate that Obama rejected again. It was down to only about 3,000 or so and that's when we went into negotiations with the Malaki government for a SOFA for those 3,000 troops. Malaki saw we weren't serious as 3,000 troops was only a token force that could in no way help. Malaki insisting that our troops would be subject to Iraqi law was a way out for both sides.

If Obama had listened to our Generals and even put 13 - 15 thousand troops there, Malaki's government would have reacted in a completely different way.

Hey, where are all those Badr-followers, the militant shiites who were always marching around threateningly, but somehow never actually getting into major combat? Aren’t they going to defend their center in Bagdad? Whence will they run?

Lots of these islamic fighters are bullies, full of bravado, but who run with more energy than they fight: especially the shiites.

Second point: The idea that we can defeat the ISIS thugs from the air alone is science-fiction fantasy.

Speaking of fantasy, here is mine. We get Obama to board a plane (perhaps on the pretext that there is a great golf-course he is to visit), and fly him off to be parachuted into combat — shoeless, of course, because he does not believe in “boots on the ground.” Just a fantasy!!

I heard and it may well be so, it’s the Sunnis who do these suicide or homicide bombings and not the Shiites.

No doubt he will be furious and demand answers, right after his next round of golf.

“What will be Fearless Leader’s next move?”

Suspend elections due to an ebola emergency quarantine/Reichstag fire?

If you have time, DVR Megyn Kelly. Very interesting interview and what you said is true (about the airport). A must watch if you have time. You only have to watch the first 10 minutes. I predict Saigon Redux. Dammit!

Hmmm...”fearless”, and ‘leader’. Yeah...two words that just do not apply. Do people really understand the magnitude of trouble our nation is in?

It seems like when we bombed Serbia, there was a lot more news coverage on the mission than what we are getting now. I don’t watch CNN, once in a while maybe, maybe they are covering big.

I caught a few last moments of the taped plea to ISIS made by the parents of the American aid worker next in line to be beheaded.

Did I see correctly? The mother had an Arabic-type head scarf on....some kind of shaped head piece with the scarf winding down and around her neck in the Muslim fashion.

Did anyone else catch this? I wonder what the story is with this family? Anyone have any information?

Leni
