Electric cars aren't selling nearly as well as many predicted. Why is that?
Research suggests a host of reasons—including a basic lack of familiarity, a high price tag, misconceptions about the cars—and ineffective government incentives.
Consider the lack of familiarity. In a survey by researchers from Indiana University and the University of Kansas, respondents couldn't correctly answer basic factual questions about plug-in electric vehicles more than 60% of the time. Some 75% of wrong answers underestimated the beneficial aspects of the vehicles.
The survey, the most exhaustive on consumer perceptions of electric cars in recent years, was published in the journal Energy Policy last year, and was based on field work conducted in several U.S. cities in 2011.
Key Differences
Many respondents didn't realize that all-electric cars require less maintenance than gasoline-powered cars. Oil changes aren't necessary, for example, and there are fewer breakable parts. The study also found that people often underestimated the fuel savings electric cars offer.
"The lack of accurate information about electric vehicles certainly [has] contributed to their small adoption," says Rachel Krause, an assistant professor in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at the University of Kansas, and a co-author of the study.

Super charging requires some serious electrical service. I doubt they would allow free charges. Tesla has free super charging for the 85KWH models, but one needs to pay additional money to enable the feature on the 60KWH model.
The quickest home charging system requires 240V 100 AMP service.
I'm sure you've heard me say similar things before. It's just that some people understand it the first time around, others need to hear it a few times.

The ‘60KWH’ model is the same as the 85KWH model with software to limit it to 60.
I write about it because it happens to be a subject that I feel disappointed that conservatives have not gotten behind. I think every conservative should be excited about the opportunity to impoverish the sheikhs, mullahs, and Russian oligarchs that get rich off of the West’s dependence on oil.

No one has mentioned that efficient power plants are always sited several hundred miles from where the energy is needed.
Or that half the energy produced is lost in the transmission lines.
Too many of the dams in California, for instance, which served both to even out wet-drought years, as well as to supply useful water for agriculture have been totally demolished.
And the very people who promoted that are frantically trying to figure out how to undo the damage without looking like total idiots.

Just check out every major freeway and highway within 100 miles of San Francisco or LA during "commute hours" any weekday...
1. low resale value due to absurd battery life.
-essential used car is disposable.
2. financing battery is just financing gas.
3. Slooooooow recharge time.
4. limited range
5. living on the edge of no charge.
6. gasoline engines work better. distribution works better. science behind it is better.
7. electrocution in the event of an accident.
