Sarah Palin holds an alligator during Rob Maness campaign event

Sarah Palin has made a lot of stump speeches, but the wide-eyed look on her face showed Saturday's might have been her first to feature a live alligator.

Palin attended an event for Senate candidate Rob Maness at Restaurant des Familles in Crown Point. Following the speech, Maness surprised the former Alaska governor with a three-foot gator.

The visit from the scaly guest -- courtesy of Insta-Gator Ranch in Covington -- was met with zydeco music and a standing ovation from the 100-plus Maness supporters in attendance.

"She just laughed about it," Maness said. "She's a warrior for American and a warrior for freedom. I'm honored to get her endorsement, but I'm honored she's prioritized our campaign."

"Mama Grizzly" and the "Alligator Hunter" served the guests a variety of alligator-inspired foods, a throwback to a Maness ad where he wrestles an alligator.

Palin has endorsed Maness in his race to unseat Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu over the Republican establishment candidate, Rep. Bill Cassidy. She compared Maness to other conservative favorites like Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Mike Lee, R-Utah.

Not that it matters that much, but that is more than a three foot gator. There is more than three feet showing in the photo. Looks like it’s probably between four and five feet. (Personal note: Years ago I helped, for one day, catch and tag alligators in the Florida Everglades. Good memories.)

I think that’s a baby Alligator. He’s wearing a ‘mouthbelt’ so Sarah won’t get her soft little hands staplegunned if ‘Junior’ gets mouthy.

You are right, it’s longer than three feet.

But - I don’t see it’s left-front leg in the photo, so....

Guessing it is hidden. Although with reporters now-a-days, it may have been a three-footed (well, three-legged) alligator. Perhaps that is why it is not out in the wild.

The first Boa I ever went to buy was being kept in a college store room.

When I got there, I noticed a kiddie pool full of water on the floor.

Walked in anyway.

Spent 30 minutes examining a Dumeril’s Boa with a 5+ foot alligator slithering over my feet, mouthing my bare ankles.

[no tape on his snout, either]

Never flinched.

Bought the Boa.

She ain’t all that.

:)

Palin has endorsed Maness in his race to unseat Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu over the Republican establishment candidate, Rep. Bill Cassidy.

What the heck is Palin thinking? Manness has not been able to get above 10%. Realclearpolitics has him at 8.7% vs. 37.7 for Cassidy.

It’s quixotic thinking like this that loses elections. Manness does not have a chance and needs to drop out to give Cassidy a shot at getting over 50% on Nov. 4. God forbid the Senate hangs in the balance in December in Louisiana. Hussein and his henchman Holder will send in the Black Panther army to make sure Republicans cannot get to the polls.
