Xinjiang unrest: China raises death toll to 50
Fifty people died in violence on Sunday in Xinjiang, Chinese state media said, in what police called a "serious terrorist attack".
Earlier this week state media reported the incident in Luntai county but gave the death toll as two.
On Thursday a state news portal said 40 "rioters", six civilians and four police officers were killed. No reason was given for the delay in reporting.
Violence has been escalating in Xinjiang in recent months.
The region in China's far west is home to the Muslim Uighur minority group. Tensions exist between the Uighur community and the Han Chinese.
'Extremist'
The regional government's news portal, Tianshan, said that blasts occurred around 17:00 on Sunday at two police stations, an outdoor market and a shop entrance.
The "rioters" either blew themselves up or were shot dead by police, it said. Fifty-four civilians were injured and two "rioters" were captured, it said.

There is Muslim solidarity growing in central Asia. Turkey has been organizing it and Obama is abetting it. All the -stans will unite under the Caliphate in the Middle East.
Muslims inhabit areas all along the southern border of Russia in central Asia. Now the Uighurs are attacking and killing Han Chinese. Maybe, just maybe, we have more in common with China and Russia than all of us realize.
We should back off Russia seizing Crimea. The Russians will need it as a base to destroy Turkey.
I am surprised that the ChiComs aren’t responding to this with a VERY heavy hand.

I can’t see China putting up with this very long.
N.B.: There are about 23-27 million Muslims in China, just about 2% of their population.
The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is close to 643,000 square miles, and borders Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. It is 43% Uyghur, and 41% Han.
In typical fashion, the Chinese are trying to “shoulder out” the Uyghur, by building Han-only cities near Uyghur towns and cities, then taking all the resources. Most of the Han living there were “encouraged” or ordered by the Chinese government to move there.
In effect, the Chinese are behaving like a colonial power, which sooner or later will accomplish a colonial revolt.
That the Uyghur are embracing their Islam to revolt is kind of secondary to the ethnic-cultural struggle.
