Roughly 500 soldiers from the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division headquarters are headed to the Middle East, with 200 of them to end up in Iraq.

At least in the Marine Corps a division is approximately 16,000. That takes a lot of boats to have 16,000 Marines afloat on the water. Even during the Gulf War we only had two Marine Expeditionary Brigades afloat. If by heavy you mean mechanized that takes even more.
