I saw that and immediately thought of you. Was it a busy day for you because of the quake or have you retired?

Can’t believe it took 31 posts for Giorgio Tsoukalos to make an appearance.

Come visit Tampa...in addition to sinkholes that eat people, as well as houses, we are also the lightning strike capitol of the US

That is very true. Mammoth Lakes is an active yet dormant super volcano like Yellowstone. These earthquakes are perfectly normal and means that an eruption could occur sometime within the next year or 10,000 years from now. The same could be said for Yellowstone.

Can we extort money from corporations because of this? Won’t women and minorities be hit hardest?

Lol. Sure we can. After all, this will be blamed on manmade Climate Change.

I don’t know where the name “Mammoth” came from. I’ve never heard of Mammoth skeletons being discovered in the area. Mammoth Lakes was a mining camp in the late 1870’s, later a logging town, and was originally called Old Mammoth and then Mammoth City. Mammoth Lakes has a population of roughly 8,000.

When I was a college student in L.A. many years ago, a lot of college kids would take weekend ski trips to the area.

The city of Mammoth Lakes, by the way, is on the edge of a caldera, the Long Valley Caldera. The plus side....many of the skiers get to enjoy the hot springs in the area.

Yes. It’s on the Long Valley Caldera.

When it erupts, the rocks or magma flies far.

When driving up 395 the volcanic boulders at the sides of the highway start to be seen hundreds of miles away.

Still working. The quake knocked some books off the shelves and caused minor building cracks but no injuries.

it is boring that people freak out about anything under a six.

Earthquake swarms of any size are significant when associated with super volcano calderas.
