President Obama was caught on video saluting Marines with a coffee cup in his hand. Just call him Cappuccino-in-Chief.
The White House posted video to its Instagram account and soon unleashed a torrent of outrage. The Washington Times dubbed the moment “Semper Latte.”
I’m surprised he didn’t order the Marines to fetch him cream and sugar.
Before lunchtime – liberals had unearthed a photograph purportedly showing former President Bush saluting with a dog in his arms.

You are actually permitted to salute if you’re holding something that you can’t put down, for one reason or another, but notice that Bush did not put the dog to his forehead. He gave a nice, crisp looking salute.
Exactly. And he didn’t hold it with the hand he was saluting with. He didn’t salute WITH the dog, the way Obama saluted with the coffee cup.
At least the Current Occupant in not (yet) giving a mock-Spock salute and wishing the greeting “Live long and prosper”.
But he might be working his way up to a two-fingered “V”, though that may require the use of both hands, a la Nixon.

Transferring that styrofoam cup to his left hand required too much thinking for Obama. They didn’t have that class at Harvard.

I know that the president is technically the CINC, but I always thought that saluting was reserved for people actively serving in the military (or possibly retired from) in uniform to others in the same circumstance. The president is not a military man and not wearing a uniform - should he be giving a military salute at all?
Doesn’t surprise me that Obama gives no care to the proper protocols, as I don’t think he respects them (or the military in general). Even so, he should know better than to give a salute while holding something else in the same hand.
Isn’t Obola left handed? Wouldn’t it been more convenient for him to hold the cup in his left hand?

As a side note; President George W. Bush signed a directive allowing all persons retired from the military, or those who served in the military, to salute the American flag in public.
Statement from Obama admin about how to move the cup from the right hand to the left hand:
“We are working on that and will soon be publishing a report and training that the White Haus staff will help implement. It is a right hand to left hand training that is flexible, yet tough, but above all fair for every American”
Barney’s right paw and right forehead are not visible in the photo. I will assume that he is saluting too.
