Prince Georges County Councilmember Karen R. Toles (D-Suitland) introduced a bill Tuesday that would prohibit hotels and motels from renting rooms at hourly rates in response to a growing human trafficking problem in the county.
The legislation was a policy recommendation by the countys human trafficking task force established in 2013 that found the hourly room rentals help facilitate criminal activity involving young men and women caught in the sex trade.
We need to tighten up our county laws so there is no loophole and [businesses] are held accountable, Toles said. We dont want Prince Georges County to be an easy target for human trafficking.

...Guess I've lived a sheltered life...
Having sex just got more expensive. LOL
They will just rent the rooms for $20 for 24 hours and rent the same room several times a night ... not their fault that the customers leave early. ;-)
That won’t fix it, they will just have sex in their Mercedes on the street!
I worked for a motel for a few weeks after my husband died. They told me of this practice then one time a man came in and asked for that special, 4 hours for $25 (6 year ago) I about sank through the floor. When he saw my red face he started teasing me. Thank God it was light teasing.
I just couldn’t work there.
Sometimes all I need is a place for 4 hours, I never get a break...
In PG county? That really happens?
This is going to hurt a lot of politicians who sneak out for a cheap quickie.
Sometimes you just want to check into the motel for a quick nap when you’re out on the road. /s
It will also disproportionately affect female minorities.
There is a notion in law about not creating laws the state can’t enforce. I don’t have a clear picture about how this one gets enforced.
Just opens a new ‘cottage business’.
Bootleggers are still alive and well in certain neighborhoods.
Now the people in public housing will just rent rooms out by the hour.
Good ‘cash business’ that will solve the ‘problem’ plus bring in some extra dough to the tenants and WE ALL will become part of the Prostitution Business...(for sure now, the Govt has been ‘doing us’ for years, now we will get to pay for the rooms also./
Is this a great country or what?????
“Arthur?”
“Yes, dear?”
“There’s a machine in the bathroom that sells things.”
Prostitution in Prince George’s County, MD is impossible because there are laws that prevent illegal copulation (and other activities). If you forbid hotels from charging hourly rates, they just set up a straw man and then sublet the room to other “johns”.
I personally don’t care what you’re doing. I don’t want to know. You should have the right either to rent your rooms how and to whom you wish, and to rent a room from someone for any legal reason you wish.
And yes, that last five minutes is spent cuddling.
Time was that hotels had an in-house detective and hotels wouldn't approve of checking in unmarried couples.
This lasted at least into the 1960s.
Like that’s gonna stop them???
