D'Souza Sentenced to Eight Months in 'Confinement Center' Over Campaign Finance Violation

In a decision likely to be framed by conservative media as a vindictive abuse of power, filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza was sentenced Tuesday to eight months in a confinement center and five years probation after pleading in May that he was guilty of violating campaign finance laws.

D'Souza's movies, America this year and two years earlier, 2016: Obama's America, are critical of the left — and in the case of the first one, President Barack Obama — and they are among the most successful political documentaries in history. D'Souza was indicted in January after he promised his then-fiancee and his former assistant that if they each donated $10,000 to the campaign of a friend who was running for the U.S. Senate he would then reimburse them.

The FBI said D'Souza's arrest stemmed from a routine investigation while his supporters — and even some legal experts who disagree with his politics, such as attorney Alan Dershowitz — accused authorities of targeting the filmmaker for political retribution. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas argued that it was "a remarkably selective prosecution considering Obama raised millions of dollars under similar circumstances."

D'Souza himself has also insinuated that he was the victim of political retribution. In a scene in America, for example, he appears in a prison cell and says, "We don't want to live in a society where Lady Justice has one eye open and winks at her friends, and casts the evil eye at her adversaries." (See that two-minute scene exclusively above). Plus, D'Souza recently tweeted a picture of his Facebook page's 350,000 "likes" with the text, "The Obama campaign to shut me up: Is it working?"

He must have gotten ratted out by the wife....as you said. I saw Dinesh get into a protracted internet debate with Robert Spencer of JihadWatch about 6 years ago. Dinesh had the larger megaphone and came off as a slimey liar

He’s a bit dingy in my opinion
But Dinesh does tons of good so I support him against the Obama regime

here is what one freeper said a while ago>>>>>>>

I betcha the wife’s divorce lawyer scowering bank account noted 10k transaction’s.asked party to explain and couldn’t lie to an officer of the court..

On the other hand the TREASURY could have asked documentation on 10k transaction which is automatically flagged.Voila can’t lie to Government so DONORS fess up reluctantly..

Should have given them 10k in Cash.

” But the sentence indicates that the Democrat judge was playing it half way, coming up with a sentence less harsh than the one asked for by the Obama-Holder DOJ, but at the same time offering a pronouncement that Democrat hacks like to hear. “

Ah, an independent judiciary. One of the hallmarks of a successful democracy. It was good, wasn’t it.

Yes. D'Souza plays himself in his movie America and the above quote is directly from him. If you haven't seen it yet, it's well worth it.

That letter that Berman read from is apparently from D'Souza's ex-wife from whom he was separating at the time of the questionable campaign contributions. She wrote to the court in support of the prosecution's harsher sentencing recommendation.

Spiteful slag.

The whole indictment and trial was a “show trial” by Holder and his toadies. Why? Because other Democrat campaign funders who did this (Remember Al Gore and the Buddhist nuns and Chinese funders) who literally got no jail time and no real punishments?

The judge did split the difference but his lecture to Dinesh was not appropriate because he is not a psychologist (though judges often function as such) and if it is based on something from the defendant’s hostile ex-wife, then you have put something into play that is not appropriate.

Holder and his crew of “injustice providers” are the most disgraceful DOJ bunch in history. In a real republic, these bastards would be in jail for a long, long time.

Remember, our revenge comes in November, only 30 some days away.

Even for a person with a net worth of several million dollars, coming up with $10,000 in actual cash, instead of a check or credit card payment of the same amount can be a bit of a stretch. The problem is the money is tied up in checking and investment accounts, meaning it can only be converted to cash by leaving a paper trail of unusual cash withdrawals that's sure to attract adverse attention. Oddly enough, a frequent gambler probably wouldn't have that problem because he could be constantly moving around actual cash amounts in that range around.
