Israel shot down a Syrian aircraft on Tuesday as it attempted to fly over the ceasefire line into the Golan Heights, according to IDF Radio.
"This Syrian aircraft, apparently a MiG-21 (fighter jet), which was approaching the Israeli side of the Golan, was shot down by a surface-to-air Patriot missile," the radio said.
The wreckage of the aircraft landed on the Syrian-controlled side of the strategic plateau, it added.

Ahhh if the US had any guts they would have taken under fire the Mexican troops that have invaded our soil some 200 times in the last 10 years acting as military screen for drug shipments or human smugglers. Our Border cops have been given run and hide ROE for these for all of that time. Yet what happens to a lone US Marine who takes a wrong turn with some rifles in his car? Makes me sick. If we had any GUTS we'd not be in the current situation at all. This POS POTUS had to be dragged kicking and screaming to Kill OBL.
Israel helping the Militants?
Corrected:
and IDF Raytheon was more accurate than the RAF.
Interesting story; hadn't read that prior...
I didn’t know Raytheon manned the batteries.
Regarding your Hess link, that’s a pretty fringy version of the events.
No reason to believe in a conspiracy to kill a 93 year old prisoner with a long history of mental illness, depression, failing health, and multiple almost-successful suicide attempts over 40 years of captivity. Generally speaking, the obvious answer is the answer.
Wikipedia surprisingly has an even-handed summary, replete with all theories.
Just a bit tongue-in-cheek, not a slam against you or the IDF.
Fact is, track, lock & fire. The Raytheon missile will hit on the basis of its design, not the IDF’s aim.
IDF deserves all the kudos for their quick response here & their impressive results whenever they undertake an offensive air assault (suppression of air defenses).
I normally skip Wiki entries, so the other link I found was simply a quick read about which I knew nothing about. I’ll have to check out the Wiki page per your suggestion.
Confusing war...all enemies are relative sorta thing
Obama is less fit for wartime than Carter
I am told there were two shoots opened, so it was almost certainly a Fencer and not a Mig21.
Also less likely to be a Hess scenario and more likely someone who got lost, since I doubt 2 would try to defect at the same time. Possible, though, I guess.
Loss of a Fencer is a blow to Syria. Very effective ground support aircraft. They have ~20, but 10 flyable at any given time.
