Ping!
One million by january. Science channel has some specials on it tonight. Interviews with Dr Brantley and the lady.
Yes, did you want to tell the world’s terrorists that the United States Army is now afraid to enter Africa, because it’s ability to face and deal with biological agents was all a myth, and that Ebola and Sars, and anything else they can get their hands on, will keep us from even showing up?
Part of the Army’s mission is biological warfare and infectious disease threats, well, we have one now, and it looks too serious to ignore.
Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!
Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...

When "Field Expedient" may not be good enough.
The military has a biothreat mission. Working in a hot zone in Africa will be good training for when they need to work in Atlanta or Nashville or LA.
Yes it is risky, but better to do the learning curve over there.
A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
No kidding.
Couldn’t see that one coming.....
The math is simple: We can shut down all international travel and close all borders until this burns out, or we can deal with Ebola directly (either in the USA or while it is in Africa). Option 1 is not realistic or practical, which leaves option 2. I’d rather deal with it in Africa than have multiple countries collapse before it gets to the USA along several paths, either intentional or inadvertent. I have family members who may be sent to deal with it, and friends who are already in West Africa because of this outbreak. I’d rather have them face it now while there is a chance of containing the threat.
