7-Eleven owners admit 'plantation' system to boost profits
New York Post ^ | September 22, 2014 | Selim Algar

A crew of crooked 7-Eleven franchise owners pleaded guilty to setting up a “plantation” system for illegal alien employees to increase profits at their Slurpee strongholds in Virginia and Long Island, according to the feds.

Five defendants copped to knowingly hiring illegal aliens, siphoning off their earnings and forcing them to live in dingy boarding homes scattered across Suffolk County, according to court papers.

The scheme skimmed a total of $2.6 million that was owed to the workers, court papers state.

Just as an aside, I recently spent some time in Hong Kong and was shocked at how many 7-11s I saw.

That's pretty much how it is all over China, except they aren't all 7-11. They are 7-11 sized grocery stores. Remember, it has only been recently that an average Chinese can buy cars, so everything had to be within walking distance. So they developed small stores rather than large ones you had to drive to.

Quite a racket.

I checked into my hotel at 5pm after a 12 hour flight. Took a shower and hit the bricks.

The noise, the smells, the noise. Jet lag and sleep deprivation seemed to enhance it all.

Don’t they get interest free loans? Seems I read something about foreign business owners getting some kind of break on interest.

Been a long time - someone please correct me if I am wrong.

My understanding with the Red Chinese slaves is that they are working as indentured servants (as people did in colonial times - 7 years’ work to pay for their passage from England). In my area the workers are brought in on vans; probably locked in a warehouse every night.

Works for blacks on the Democratic Plantation .... break up the family unit, put the males in jail, and put the mamas and chilren on the dole....and yes, they will be grateful enough to vote for them forever (LBJ knew that building his Great Society).

Mexcans you are next, step up and join the Democratic Hacienda.

You’ve just described several chinese restaurants in my area. The only difference being is they all arrive in one big van in the morning, and at the end of the day they all pile back into the van to go God knows where. great potstickers, though.

Where do they get the money to buy these franchises.

Have you ever seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? The family in it has a restaurant, and a travel agency, and a number of other businesses. They reinvest in other family and community members. There's a whole informal economy among extended families and close-knit immigrant communities. It was the pattern with Greeks, Italians, and Eastern European Jews, and more recently with Koreans, Vietnamese and South Asians.

You gotta’ have a pretty big stash to get a McDonald’s or 7-11.

You won't see very many immigrant-owned McDonalds. Seven figures liquid is their minimum. That's why some of the stereotypes come into being -- it's the businesses with relatively low barriers of entry. Roadside motels from smaller chains or no chain at all, convenience stores, Dairy Queens.

I believe a southeast asian company bought out the southland corporation in the nineties. So that’s not too suprising. was this the area being redeveloped over by where old Kai Tak airport and the walled city was?

Years ago in Bangkok, a Thai boy practicing his English asked me if we had 7-11s in America. It took me a second to answer. I haven't seen one in the South in a long time; they've pretty much been displaced by QuikTrip, Racetrac, oil company C-stores, and the occasional Circle-K.

This is terrible. The illegals need to be deported for their own good and protection.

Another reason to control our borders: simply protecting illegal aliens. If they’d been stopped at the border this horror would never have taken place.
