The Secret Service is considering screening tourists and other visitors at checkpoints before they enter the public areas in front of the White House in response to the episode Friday in which a man with a knife managed to get through the front door of the president’s home after jumping over the fence on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to law enforcement officials.
As part of the screening, the Secret Service would establish several checkpoints a few blocks from the White House, the officials said. The screening would likely be limited to bag checks and not include measures taken at airports by the Transportation Security Administration, which include metal detectors and body scans.

Just wonderful. The Secret Circus screws up, so they want to punish the innocent citizens. Pass the buck time.

But they say the rest of us should treat home invaders like “royalty”, show deference to them, and spray wasp repellent at them if it comes to the worst.
So now they are going to build a “green zone” in DC?
Somehow..I don’t think the President deserves that much security. They already overdo it when he travels. This was a screw up that would does not require establishing a “green zone” to prevent. They just need to lock a door and have more agents in the grass.

Note well that the proposed measures would not stop either of the two recent attacks. Why, it's almost like they were staged excuses for this new plan. Bag checks? I'll bet there's some intel about a backpack-borne nasty. That's what they are really trying to stop. Why don't they just come clean? Because all they want to do is protect the White Hut, not us, and don't want us to panic when we realize we're exposed. Nope, if they were worried about some knife-wielding fence jumper, they'd do the magnetometer thing. This is something else.

so....the people guarding the White Hut are too incompetent to secure the perimeter. So you are going to expand the indefensible perimeter, but make all hapless passers by go thru a TSA-style screening?
