Do you feel sorry for Lois Lerner? A remarkable long feature article in Politico about the former high-ranking IRS official who pleaded the Fifth Amendment paints a remarkably sympathetic picture of her. The title of the piece by Rachel Bade tantalizingly suggests that some negotiations as to subject matter and tone might have taken place: “Exclusive: Lois Lerner breaks silence.” As Rick Moran pointed out to me, Lerner could have taken her exclusive to the New York Times or Washington Post, and almost certainly they would have been delighted to sit down and talk with her for two hours, as she did with Ms. Bade.
The lead paragraph gives away the story:
Employers won’t hire her. She’s been berated with epithets like “dirty Jew.” Federal agents have guarded her house because of death threats. And she’s spent hundreds of thousands of dollars defending herself against accusations she orchestrated a coverup in a scandal that has come to represent everything Americans hate about the IRS.
I have followed the story fairly closely, and I had no idea what religion Ms. Lerner favored. But there you have it, eleven words into the piece: she’s the victim of anti-Semitism, doncha know. Strategically deployed two days before the Jewish High Holy Days begin. Poor Lois!
There is some new material offered. I didn’t realize that:
Lerner started her career far away from tax policy, as a dental hygienist. She quickly switched gears and went to law school, graduating cum laude. After a stint at the Justice Department, she spent 20 years at the FEC before heading to the IRS in 2001.
Dos this mean she switched majors in college? Or that she actually stood over patients handing tools to a dentist? We just don't know. But it paints a picture of up-from-humble origins.

She’s a criminal. She belongs in prison. Her retirement needs yanked. She is a chronic liar. Those in her neighborhood should shun and ridicule her.

Totally agree, she should wind up in a federal slammer.
if she’s worried about safety, we could find here a nice place to live where nobody could get to her.. like solitary confinement.
The good news is, that she will be hounded by legal troubles for a very long time - even if some “good Samaritan” pays for the bills.
One can only hope she lives in fear for the rest of her sorry little life.
Real fear.

I fervently hope she lives a nice long miserable life paying everyday for the awful things she did weaponizing the IRS.
I actually suspect she is about to get some very lucrative (likely private sector) “payoff” job and this sob story is to provide cover for the democRAT-sponsor hiring her.
Any guesses about her upcoming gig...? Chelsea Clinton’s replacement?, Revlon? (where ala Monica), Oracle?, Soros operations?, the UN?
When absolutely nothing ever comes out of this investigation, I hope, HOPE that more will finally see how utterly corrupt and broken our current system of government is.
A real possibility, the leftist RATS take care of their own.

I have no sympathy for someone who targeting conservative groups, pro-life groups, pro-Israel, pro-Christian groups with IRS thuggery! Let her rot in fear of an impending audit from the bespeckled gestapo!

I don’t believe, for a second, that she paid a dime of her own personal finances for her defense. What legal fees could she have amassed; she took the fifth and that was the end of it?
She should be in jail for life at the minimum. I see a strong case for for a more severe punishment, too.
And Lerner claims she’s not a “political person.”
That’s almost as funny as the IRS claiming they lost her (clearing throat) e-mails that were also not political.
She wants to destroy our country and malign half of us.
Who cares what she thinks. She wants to stomp out Free Speech.
I'm guessing that our Founding Fathers would've jailed her or called for the death penalty.
The Left seems to always have sympathy for the criminal instead of the victims!
She should be offered immunity only if she comes clean and names all the names. They should let her know that she will be prosecuted after Obama leaves office so she won’t have any chance for a pardon.
