CALIFORNIA GOP CONVENTION: A DIVIDED PARTY FIGHTS FOR ITS SURVIVAL
Breitbart ^ | September 21, 2014 | by JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 09/21/2014 11:23:58 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Despite a rousing speech by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who indicated that he would soon open an office in the state in pursuit of his presidential ambitions, California's Republican Party convention in Los Angeles, "Reclaim California," sounded a note of division, with three prominent Republicans declining to support the party's candidate for governor, amidst growing concern about the party's future as a statewide political institution.

Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks), who lost to former U.S. Treasury official Neel Kashkari in the primary election after being outspent in the closing weeks, declined to endorse Kashkari when asked by the Sacramento Bee, saying that he was endorsing "liberty."

The party's two most hopeful statewide candidates, Ashley Swearengin (for Controller) and Pete Peterson (for Secretary of State) also declined to back Kashkari. The lack of support for Kashkari is striking, especially after Kashkari's strong performance earlier in September in his debate with incumbent Democrat Jerry Brown. It is unclear how supporting Kashkari would hurt either candidate. Voters do not have a particularly negative view of him, even if he is far behind Brown in the polls. Yet moderates and conservatives seem reluctant to back a losing candidate who stands for the party as a whole.

Kashkari has long been an unlikely standard-bearer.

~~snip~~

Though Rand Paul's emphasis on social liberalism, outreach to minority voters, and skepticism of foreign wars seem designed to appeal to California voters, it is far from clear that even that formula can win support back to the GOP...

Finally, conservatives are showing some spine! I guess these rebels actually want to have a system where two parties are not identical.

I support them in that too!

Colorado is about to get a republican governor again. The tide can be turned back in California too, as long as the democrats can be held accountable for the state California is in now.

In the old days there were some good Pubbies from the rural and central valley counties. I even changed county registration to vote for 'em a couple of times, but now we are living in Sodom by the Sea.

There are good people in rural CA, but there are no good politicians.

You add California State laws to the Feds and you have one hell of a communists State. This State, under Democrats, is destroyed and since it is a haven for illegals we will never recover. Example: Sometimes huge water shortages and instead of building desalination plants they build a high speed rail that will be useless to most in California.

Pro abortion, pro amnesty, pro homosexual marriage, and anti 2A, and this is what represents California as the Republican candidate for governor. I am counting the days until we retire and leave this mess.

::::::::::

Those that vote DemocRat in California are those that PROFIT from tax-and-spend, welfare supporting, illegal supporting, business destroying DemocRats running the state...albiet into the ground. That is why they proliferate here. A state where bums and illegals flourish at the expense of business and REAL, taxpaying residents.

How do we turn the state away from this mess ???

I think my incorrect reading of the headline was more accurate. I read “survival” as “funeral”.

I don’t think it can be turned around, we had a chance not too long ago when the people rallied around then Governor Howdy Doody, giving Licenses to Illegals and we the people Recalled a sitting Governor and elected Arnold the Womanizer. Arnold almost immediately SOLD OUT everyone in California in favor of the RINO Establishment. Arnold gave us AB32, the Global Warming Religion Law. A lot of people had high hopes for the Womanizer, not me, I knew a long time ago he was nothing more than Ted Kennedy in a skirt.

You don’t. CA is done. Conservatism has no influence here and never will again. It is LibTard central. The demographics have changed and mightily. This isn’t the back and forth of a long cycle, this is the absolute end of the GOP here.

And ... those demographic changes are set in stone across America albeit more slowly. All the more reason to get rid of the GOPe while we still can because what they will leave us is a Party as powerful as the GOP is in CA. A goldfish has more power in CA than the GOP.

I personally blame Arnold the Womanizer for destroying what was left of the Republican Party in CA. We were on a roll until he was actually SWORN in, whereas his first words upon taking the oath of adultery i mean office, was to quote the great civil rights leader Rodney King: “Now can’t we all just get along” before the entire State Legislature.

Actually, that’s not true. All the educated libs on the westside of LA and in the Bay Area are hurt by the socialism they vote for. They vote the way they do under social pressure, to be cool, hip, sensitive, do-gooders.

If you could turn those that actually do try to earn well and run businesses in CA to at least listen to a social liberal fiscal conservative, it might help the state.

I don’t know of any purist conservative strategy for California that would work.

Also, the populists on the airwaves all over CA could have some influence. They helped kill the phony Meg Whitman.

A reasonably modern social side, and a strong pro-American, pro-business conservative focus, could possibly have a chance, from my exposure to a lot of apoliticals or low info voters. They do see the state going into the sewer, and they admit to me, a known conservative, that they are uncomfortable with the amount of illegals and how nothing is ever done.

Bingo! We need a new suit in a deck of cards. It’s the FU suit

Rand could be the Ace of FU for a day, week, or month. Kashkiri could be the Queen of FU for the same period.
