It’s comforting to know that do many fellow FReepers despise me simply because I ride a bicycle and wear the appropriate clothing for the sport.

I'm basically just a ten miler at day road biker, but the gear queers I meet are generally first class tw*ts of a most arrogant kind.

agree. I see them every now and again on a road with no overtaking lane , no bicycle lane, and they still ride side by side therefore blocking all the road. They cruise through red lights and break laws , and then get all upset they others are upset with them.

As for the latex wearers, what is that about, wear them but at least put shorts over the top. It’s disgusting to see grown men wearing those spandex with it all out in plain sight

If someone is looking to get some training time on aero bars, the Central Park loop is NOT the place. There is too much traffic there. Better off going across the GW Bridge and get aero bar time along the Palisades Trail.

Agreed. It was stupid and irresponsible, criminally reckless thing to do and I think he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I was just pointing out that the bike did have breaks; it was just that he had his hands on the aeobars which do not have braking levers on them. Those are as I understand for racing and racing conditions and not for road or trail riding.

Had some idiot do similar while I was on my way to work.
Then he saw my uniform, decided it wasn’t worth ticking me off.

“I’m to the point that my opinion on bicycling on the street is that it should be outlawed.”

I agree with your basic premise. They should only be allowed on very specific roads that have bike lanes that meet specific criteria. It's not infrequent on narrow two-lane roads that bicyclists riding in the road take up so much space (sometimes riding in the middle of one lane) that cars have to go around them and veer into the other lane to pass. When there is oncoming traffic this is dangerous for the car driver (and sometime these two-lane roads are hilly or wind around - and so you can't always see oncoming traffic for a long distance).

This happened to me the other day while taking my child to school. If you don't pass the cyclists you have to travel at bicycle speed for a long way (could be a mile or more). They don't get over for you, and act as though the road is exclusively theirs. They may be within the law - but then the law should be changed - as you suggest.

Last year on my way to work one morning, I was nearly run off the road by a Honda Civic driving moron and I was driving my car. Evidently going 15 to 20 mph over the posted speed limit on a two lane country road wasn’t fast enough for this “Fast & Furious” wannabe

I hate tailgaters with a passion. Seriously, they themselves are accidents waiting to happen. What irks me more than anything is when I can no longer see their headlights in my rear-view mirror.

Lucky for me, I drive a large, gas guzzling SUV so I'm somewhat puzzled why it's almost always the idiots who drive shitbox little cars that would fold up like an accordian that tailgate me.

So last week I was eating an apple when one such jerkwad in some shitbox Honda Civic was not only tailgating me, he was "swerving" back and forth in the lane. When I finished eating my apple I opened up my sunroof and tossed it out behind me.

The apple core landed right in his open sunroof, smacking him in the head.

It was fun watching him slam on his brakes and ditch his car on the side of the road. Hope the asshole remembers that for next time.

nothing more needs to be said. I tried biking around there and they pissed off even me (who is probably classified as one of the lycra clad jerks in the rest of the country;-).

a few months back a local bike shop had just set up an open sided Canvas Promotional “gazebo”......on the sidewalk... as he has for years...

he was in the process of rolling bikes out of the front door of his shop to display on the shop side...of sidewalk ..when a STREAM of riders came blazing through....said gazebo....

I happened to be no more than twenty feet away from this circus...when he told me that that was not the first time....such an “event” had happened there.

I ride an electrically assisted cargo bike....and MANY road bike riders see me as a HERETIC..

I can beat almost anything from 0-15 MPH...

Oh, that ‘Gurly’ ad is funny!

Just don’t post the pic of John Kerry in lycra shorts & a T. If possible, he looks even worse than ‘the Great Leader’.

"Most of these bike riders in their latex underwear are pretty light in the loafers." Then throw him in prison and call it a reward instead of a punishment.

let's make a deal. Try him for manslaughter. Then let everyone advocating homosexual rape on this thread suffer the same fare as the men of Sodom. Oh, and lose the signature. It shames the one whose name it claims. So many hypocrites.

It’s comforting to know that do many fellow FReepers despise me simply because I ride a bicycle and wear the appropriate clothing for the sport.

I don’t ride all the time but when I do most of the people in my area accept cyclists and are courteous enough. I glad that there doesn’t appear to be any of the posters on this thread that live near me - I might get run off the road for the shear fun of it.

On the very scenic rural road I travel on back and forth to work every day, (between Wrightsville PA and Manheim PA – Lancaster County – a truly beautiful area BTW) and so much nicer and relaxing than my former commute on the Baltimore Beltway, during the nice weather months, there are a lot of bicyclists on the road, many of them serious road bicyclists wearing bicycling appropriate clothing and gear. And I must say that I have never encountered a bicyclist or group of bicyclist driving in a reckless manner or purposely obstructing traffic or not obeying traffic rules at stop signs and traffic lights. I’m very sure that there are a-hole bicyclists but how about a-hole car drivers? I’ve encountered a lot more car drivers who I would like to see permanently taken out of the gene pool than I have bicyclists.

Yes, along these roads there are no bike lanes and the narrowness of the roads means that sometimes I’ve got to slow down and or wait for oncoming traffic to pass before I pass the bicyclists. But this is no biggie to me. I’ve also have to do the same, extend the same courtesy to slow moving farm tractors/harvesters and Amish buggies. In fact the slow moving farm tractors and Amish buggies seem to me, as given their size and amount of space they take up on the road, are more of a road hazard than the bicyclists. But then such is life around here. Not all, but most folks around here are polite and patient.

FWIW, I live in York PA and this weekend was “Bike Week”. Not for bicyclists but for motorcyclists. The Harley plant here holds a free open house this time every year and there are other events for the bikers in York. The town is full of motorcyclists that from all across the region and the country for the event. Unlike “Bike(r)” events in other parts of the country, this one doesn’t seem to have the crime and problems that others see, perhaps because it attracts mostly Harley riders. I’ve noticed that Harley riders tend to follow the rules of the road unlike the punks riding rice burners and crotch rockets.

My hubby is an avid biker and a strong Christian man and father. He has been cut off rudely and run off the road multiple times by drivers who want to be jerks. He wears the appropriate cycling clothing to cycle 20-40 miles in 1-2 hours. You sir are an idiot.

Sure, auction him off to the highest bidder on his cell-block.
