If there is a speed trap, you will get a ticket. Or you will get a ticket for rolling through a stop sign.

Moving violations happen. That’s most people’s encounter with the criminal justice system.

You can talk your way out of a ticket but good luck with settling it if you are issued one.

Its a tax.

Like that matters. So is the license plate fee. Don't pay it, and you end up in the same boat.

I love how conservatives defend a tax when its collected from you at gunpoint.

You aren't talking about me. I don't love it, whether it's a fine or a tax. They are one in the same. I hate them both.

A ticket is not about public safety, its about revenue enhancement.

May I rephrase that?

The way tickets are given can be for either public safety or revenue enhancement.

And its big business.

It's a large customer base.

You don’t pay if your NOT GUILTY.

Parking tickets do not warrant a court appearance.
Driving infractions do.

You can lose your license for both if you ignore it.

I’m telling All of Freeper Nation to plea NOT Guilty on simple infractions in court. You will either pay, go to school, or walk off with a dismissal.

75% will walk. People that are not guilty will tell that to the Judge. It takes a little moxy to tell a Judge your not guilty but it will surprise you as to how low you are on their radar screen.

What you said. Amazing how many people don’t simply work with authorities, utilities, etc.(as I often did in a very poor time in my life), and then give them complete crap when the boom gets lowered. Just ignoring the problem NEVER works.

I’ve heard scumbuckets tell the cops “I’m a good kid—I pay my fines on time.”

A captive customer base.

But you can’t ignore public debts. The worst someone you owe a debt to can do is sue you.

But the government can seize your assets or send you to prison if you’re a scofflaw.

And remember, you’re not allowed an attorney or a jury in traffic court.

I cannot believe that. I have been to traffic court in podunk towns and many people had lawyers.

You have the right to be represented by an attorney in court in front of a judge.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

If you’re charged with a misdemeanor or felony, you have a right to an attorney.

If its a lesser offense, its considered a low level proceeding.

I’ve been to traffic court and they do things different than in the superior court.

I’ve had 3 in the last 2 years on speeding charges. I never went to court and the charges fluttered away like a butterfly.

It takes an understanding of the system. Instead of check-writing class in HS, maybe a misdemeanor ticket class is better served.

Good luck with it.

In creating an infraction, they took away your rights.

Its basically an administrative proceeding, which is why its a fee rather than bail or a fine.

You don’t even have to show up. If you elect to pay the fine, it counts the same as a guilty plea and goes on your record.

The system makes it easy.

Agree with you on all points.

A couple years ago I got my first ticket since 1982 for a burned-out headlight, which is a discretionary ticket on the officer’s part.

I went to traffic court to appeal it and got off because the officer made a mistake writing it out.

But of all the people in court that night, only one person was there for drunk driving: a white kid with a rich daddy.

Everybody else was a cash-strapped minority who had some old violation they hadn’t been able to pay off, so the fines were compounded, and eventually their licenses revoked. The net result was they didn’t even have the means to go to work, after the “justice” system had put them a couple thousand dollars in debt for what started out as petty violations like mine.

I felt like a schmuck for even disputing my ticket.

She should have paid her tickets. I had to pay mine. According to the article she is working. Let her spend some of her dope money paying her tickets.

But the government can seize your assets or send you to prison if you’re a scofflaw.

Or even if you are not. They can even kill you just because you are inconvenient.

The key is; They are not wrong but a procedural process was not followed. Just trying to help.

Those are known as "fix it tickets" here in NC. Go get the light repaired, provide proof of the repair and the ticket is rescinded. Don't and you pay the fine. Fail to appear and you'll have a warrant for your arrest. Simple enough to avoid trouble, all anyone has to do is just do what they should've done all along.

Well then, it's either the county you live in or it's just you.

You can have an attorney meet with the prosecutor and negotiate a deal before it even goes to the judge.

I have not been to every 'court' in the US, but every one I have been to (traffic court) you had the RIGHT to bring in an attorney.
