The WA Compost strikes back with this quote!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/09/17/antarctic-sea-ice-expands-to-record-high-level-arctic-sea-ice-shrinks-to-sixth-lowest/
This lack of understanding notwithstanding, increasing Antarctic sea ice does not in any way disprove global warming. Despite the increase in winter sea ice in the Antarctic, the water in the Southern Ocean is warming while satellite measurements have shown that the Antarctic continent is – on balance – losing ice.

Yeppers! It’s losing ice while it is gaining it. And as the world’s climate is getting colder it truly is getting warmer!

The presence of sea ice changes the level of the sea not one whit. Ice is lighter than water, which is why it floats on top, and does not displace more water when it melts.

Try this with several ice cubes in a glass of water, then fill the level of the water to the point where a meniscus held in place by water tension rises slightly above the rim of the glass.

Let ice melt.

Observe spillage on the surface on which the glass stands.

The meniscus above the rim of the glass shall be exactly the same, there will be no spillage.

The total global sea ice extent is above the line.

“Does that mean we’re doomed?”

Yes, we are doomed AGAIN. And we’re all gonna die...AGAIN!

Should we ship the polar bears to the antarctic in order to save them? Of course they might eat up all the penguins so who knows if it would be a good idea.

Their response: Excessive heat causes excessive cooling and freezing. Just like when you boil water, it always freezes up.

Of course it is proof of global warming! Hot air rises, leaves behind cold air. That's why Antarctica, in the south, is getting colder/icier. Duh! Do I have to think of everything?

Yes, I know this is a stupid argument. But no dumber than what AGW/climate change zealots will try to spin...

Lots of great, amusing and informative posts on this thread.
I like the Kodiak Bars best as far as polar bars are concerned. Mmad, I may be lysdexic.
If boiling water makes things cooler, then the Liberal Greenies should be able to warm their house in winter by opening the windows and letting the cold air inside.

They have bars at the poles? Make sense, would be one way to stay warm.

1,535,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 climatological mean.

For perspective, that additional area is bigger than Texas (696,241 km2), and almost as big as Alaska (1,717,854 km2).

This is just in time for Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Climate Summit and Costume Ball next week. I’m sure there will be lots of maniacal laughter from the evil overlords.

From the un’s site noting Banki’s super awesome adventures:

Mr. Ban’s two-day visit to Greenland provided him with an opportunity to see first-hand the impacts of climate change, where the melting of ice sheets is accelerating.

Must be nice to travel on other people’s money.
