The survey was bogus like most military surveys these days. They extrapolated the final figures. The latest stats on male on male assaults was around 200. They consider groping, etc as sexual assault. I’d say the majority of the cases are roommates waking up to find their roommate pulling some funny business.
I’m sure their are a lot not getting reported because of barracks justice.
I am sorry for your loss. I meant no disrespect to you or any veteran. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that immorality was rampant or tolerated at that time. I was simply stating that most young men in the service today are made of the same stock. But their leadership has failed them.
The battlefield is certainly a different environment since WWII. One of my uncles was in Bataan and I cannot imagine the hell he went through. There Japanese were a vicious enemy and the conditions were horrific.
Today, we are better equipped, some say better trained, and all volunteers. Modern medical advances are responsible for saving countless lives on the battlefield. I have heard estimates that up to 80% of our current casualties would have died in WWII.
While much has changed, the majority of those serving today would have been a welcome addition to any squad in WWII. Our enemies today are less honorable than the Japanese were in your time, and many of them are back here and in positions of power.
Thank you for your service and I really respect all that you did.
