I don’t like Cher’s left-leaning politics, but I like frivolous litigation even less. (Note: The suit was filed shortly after the disgruntled choreographer-Plaintiff was fired in June.)

The choreographer who filed the suit was not discriminated against, regardless of whether or not Cher’s instructions were racist — as it did not affect him — thereby obviating any actual damages to the Plaintiff. (Hurt feelings or personal interpretations are not grounds for suit.)

Moreover, if an artist wants all white or all black dancers, it is an artistic expression that cannot be infringed without violating the artist’s right to freedom of speech, as interpreted by the US Supreme Court.

In the instant case, Cher included black dancers — and from the picture in the article — to a representative proportion of the population, presumably because that was her artistic vision.

Legally, that has to be the presumption.

Thank goodness! It's time once and for all to end this business of considering skin color when casting for shows. Personally, I've been gunning for a part in A Raisin in the Sun for decades.
