So you don't consider the past ethanol tax credit per gallon a subsidy? I do. And what you suggest, giving special taxes to selected products is the government choosing the winners and losers. You support the wind tax credit as well?

No, the whole ethanol thing is a cluster, and so is wind. The ethanol debacle did nothing good for consumers, rather it harmed them and p!$$ed them off. Both are unsustainable without the "subsidy" Gasoline, however, is not. People continue to buy it, but use less of it...or, if they are transporting goods, they build fuel costs into the wholesale prices and pass them along to consumers.

If it could be so structured, cheap gas and diesel would benefit every American.

I think you and I are just going to continue to say the same things and disagree.

I do not support more federal regulations and special tax credits to selected segments of selected industry. Most conservatives agree with me.

Well, maybe. But let me make two clarified points:

First; I don’t think we should be played for fools, playing by “fair trade” rules in a global market of unfair trade practices, with US consumers getting the short end of the stick.

Secondly; I only don’t care that “the government picks winners and losers” IF AND ONLY IF, the winners are the American Public, not some political donor or buddy, and certainly not some foreign interest.

The Preamble to the Constitution states the purposes of the federal government. Among them, to “promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves.

“Promote the general welfare” means neither Socialism nor corporate welfare. However, it does harken directly to our self-directed ability to raise our standards of living.

I’ll be quietly reading your other thread now.

You don’t need to be quiet. Even we don’t agree, we and everyone else can learn from different opinions, especially when find reasons, good or not, to justify our stance. I get frustrated, and sometimes that shows, but I try to have a reasoned discussion.

If I cannot explain my position, perhaps I didn’t understand it well, or I was wrong. If I can explain it, I might convince someone else to take that position to the voting both, even if it is a lurker and not an active poster in the conversation.

That, is the reason I spend time here, tilting at my windmills.

Sure, I just do agree it applies.

In my opinion, that position is how we get wind, solar, ethanol subsidies. Just a different group that wants it and thinks it is for our own good.

Wel...the thieving RATs and activists may believe it, but it appears even the "take the money and run" green-power crooks know better.

After so many bankruptcies and failures (including Fukushima) you'd think the jig is about up. The American People are not seeing any "climate change" certainly not "global warming" but they are seeing (as advertised) "energy prices necessarily skyrocket".

The blame for this should be placed squarely at the feet of the RATs.

By the way, gas prices have dropped here since we started bantering. Oil...$91+/-. Keep up the good work.
