As the pounding of war drums intensifies against ISIS and its advances in Iraq and Syria, at least one senator is voicing opposition to plans to arm Syrian rebels and says he's willing to shut down the government over it.

Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat who often finds himself at odds with the White House, said spending $500 million to provide weapons to groups in Syria that are fighting both ISIS and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will backfire.

"At the end of the day, most of the arms that we give to people are used against us. Most of the people we train turn against us," Manchin said Tuesday on CNN's "New Day."

On this issue Machin is right and the idiots McCain & Graham are wrong.

The ONLY folks we should be arming are the Kurds and the ONLY ones we should be targeting are ISIS forces.

I’m for helping the Kurds (and their allies) defend themselves. Not allying with the Iraqi Shi’a, Iran, Syria, Russia and Hezbollah.

Same here. IMHO the goal is to defeat ISIS and ISIS only. Stay out of anything else.

Manchin is simply stating an obvious, common sense point.

What is different here is that he has some conviction and he is not waiting for DNC leadership to give him mis-direction.

I’ll give kudos where kudos are due.

Bravo, Joe Manchin (as long as you aren’t strong-armed into changing your position)

Isn't this a false statement?

As a constitutionalist conservative WEST Virginian, I'm warning you ... from first hand experience ... DO NOT TRUST JOE MANCHIN.

Got it?

Nossir. It's got nothing but joy for Obama and is a lose-lose situation for us.... IF we cooperate.

The news media has richly demonstrated that they have chosen sides (liberal Democrat) and they don't care who knows it any more.

Should we take the bait, the Propaganda Ministry (ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/MSNBC/NYT/LAT/WP) would blame Republicans for every bad thing in the planet. THE REPUBLICANS SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT AGAIN, they would constantly remind the unwashed masses. Hell, if nothing but Democrats sponsored such an effort, it would STILL be the Republicans fault.

The intent is to sway the election towards Democrats by a few points.

Don't fall for it.

I have a different take. I would send troops. At least 75,000. They would put down in the center of Kurd territory and start expanding and pushing everyone back.

Once they pushed everyone back several hundred miles in every direction, have them declare their new country and let America be the first country to support the new government.

Then leave 25,000 troops there like they have in South Korea. The second country to recognize them should be Israel.
