I can’t think of a worse torture than to be aware for so long without any means of communication or other pleasures in life.
Who would want to be an intelligent vegetable?
I would not want to be conscious but helpless for 16 years.
That sounds worse than death to me.
There was a case in Arizona where a woman had been a coma and on life support for 15 years. Her daughter had grown up, married and started a family during that time, and still visited her mother in the hospital nearly every day.
Noticing that a particular anti-viral drug had a neurological side effect on some patients where certain neurological activity went “off the charts”, the woman’s doctors received approval to try the drug on the 15-year-long coma patient.
The woman “woke up” and when her daughter arrived and began conversing with her mom, the woman told her daughter she had always heard her daughter talking to her on her visits.
I suspected this ever since my first caesarian. Because it was an emergency, I had general anesthesia. I heard much of what the nurses were saying in recovery. I knew I had a big, baby girl long before my doctor came around and started shouting at me to wake up. With every surgery I’ve had, my hearing and awareness come back before my muscles could respond.
Please, be careful what you say around supposedly unconscious people. They just might not be unconscious.

Anyway, don’t frame arguments on the pain of starving and dehydrating these “v” people. Liberals can fix that with a “merciful” shot. That will be the solution in answer to the pro-life complaint. They believe that people who have a life not worth living should be put down. They will progress to tagging their thought enemies as living a worthless life. Our argument is that all innocent human life is worth living...liberals don’t get to pick and choose who to murder.
