Independent Greg Orman has opened up a lead in his effort to unseat Republican Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts, according to a new poll from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.
Orman leads Roberts 41-34, with Democrat Chad Taylor who announced plans to end his campaign earlier this month capturing 6 percent of the vote. Libertarian Randall Batson earned 4 percent support in the poll, which was first provided to the Huffington Post. The automated phone and online survey of 1,328 likely voters was taken between Sept. 11 and Sept. 14. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 2.7 percentage points.
In a head-to-head matchup, Ormans lead grows to 10 percentage points, according to the poll.
The poll is the first to show Orman with a clear lead, even with Taylor included among the pool of candidates. Taylor has attempted to withdraw from the race entirely and is suing to remove his name from the November ballot.
Even more significantly, PPP did not prompt respondents about Taylor ending his campaign before conducting the ballot test. The majority of Taylor supporters said they know that he has asked to be removed from the ballot, and a subsequent question showed 63 percent of likely voters think he should be allowed to withdraw his name.
The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday in the case. Taylor is appealing GOP Secretary of State Kris Kobachs decision to keep his name on the ballot.

We needed Milton Wolf to win.
If they air it. I hope they do.
“Democrat poll. Orman is a left-wing moonbat well out of step with Kansas. Roberts is a good Conservative Senator.”
Paul Davis is a Obama nut as well.
The scum GOP_E I think is to blame. They are against Conservatism. True colors coming out in Kansas like it did in D.C.
I’m just worried Obama policies will finally come to my state. But I agree.
It’s time for a conservative party.
Voting for Orman ?
Wolf was a joke. An empty suit with no record. Sole claim to fame was being Zero’s cousin. There are many authentic and validated Conservatives in KS that are qualified (like Kris Kobach), but Wolf ain’t one.
KS seems to strangely prefer having RINO, Democrat or leftist Governors. Brownback was the first GOP Conservative Governor of KS elected since 1964.
PPP is a highly slanted dim push poll. Probably 10% off. In any case, it is still probably a very close race.
Roberts is not a RINO, and his “conservative challenger” was pretty twisted - found it amusing to post online gunshot victims x-rays and crack jokes about them.
I don’t like the GOP-E, but I think I’d pull the lever for Roberts if I lived in Kansas. Unlike some states, including my home state of Arizona, I don’t remember seeing the GOP-E candidate attack conservatives with much vitriol.
Of course, I’m not sure Roberts can think long enough to attack anyone, but I’d rather see him in than his opponent.
