In the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, the Atlanta NAACP will begin hosting forum. (snip) Atlanta NAACP President Dr. R.L. White says, “Most of the cops, are good cops but every once in a while one in a basket can spoil the whole thing.” And White says when young black males inadvertently run into one of those cops and they show any kind of temper, “the cop gets angry and thinks he has the right to shoot them or demean them in any way that he can.” White adding,

Situational awareness - not getting into that situation in the first place is best - but it does happen. I practice it now, but in 1974 I didn't, and got robbed and shot.

I had a cop pull a gun on me because he thought I was a murder suspect.

Even at 20 years old I was bright enough to know that it wasn’t the best time to debate the finer points of the constitution.

That had to be beyond frightening! I know that the few times I’ve been pulled over (speeding), I’ve been careful to keep my hands where they can see them, don’t make any fast moves and let them know what I’m doing (like I’m getting my docs out of the glove compartment).

I like the attitude of the Detroit police chief. He says criminals are going to continue shooting each other and he isn't going to expend any more resources on investigating those shootings than necessary. He says criminals don't talk anyway and investigative resources can go into investigating crimes against the innocent.

He doesn't say it here, but he's been pretty vocal about the fact that armed citizens are the greatest crime deterrent he has.

There’s a benign tissue mass around it, as the body is wont to do with a foreign object, so simple 1” arthroscopy isn’t really a surgical option; it would involve a large invasive incision, which at 64, I don’t need.

Besides, police are required by law to automatically seize the bullet, even in a crime as old as this one (40yrs just past 7/14/74), but DAMMIT, I want the bullet to wear on a gold chain around my neck! I was shot with it, carried it and I WANT it. PA state law says no, we get it as ‘evidence’. BS.
