Backing for Condoleezza Rice to take over scandal hit NFL

High powered backing for former Secretary of State to rescue America’s most popular sport

Support is growing for a campaign to draft Condoleezza Rice as Commissioner for the troubled National Football League (NFL).

American football, the country’s most popular sport and a bastion of macho male culture, has suffered one of the worst weeks in its history with three high-profile stars facing accusations of domestic violence.

The crisis has led to calls for Ms Rice, a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, to step in replace the beleaguered Roger Goodell as Commissioner.

As far back as 2002 Ms Rice described becoming NFL Commissioner as her dream job.

Now she is getting serious backing, including from former members of the Bush administration, for taking on the task of rescuing a sport whose image has taken a severe battering over the last seven days.

Earlier this week the Washington Post carried a piece by a member of its editorial board calling for Ms Rice, 59, to take over from Mr Goodell, who has come under fire over his handling of the domestic violence scandal which has engulfed the sport.

Politicians and women’s groups were enraged by the NFL’s decision to impose what they regarded as an inadequate two match ban on Ray Rice, the Baltimore Ravens’ running back who knocked his fiancée out cold in the lift of a New Jersey casino.

He belatedly received an indefinite ban after footage of the incident was released by TMZ, a gossip website.

Mr Goodell insisted NFL officials had not seen the incriminating tape when the original ban was imposed.

This has now been disputed and several senators have called for him to step down.

“If he lied to the American people, he has to step down,” said Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat senator for NY.

No doubt she’d make a superb commissioner. However I really would rather see such intellect be directed at topics that actually make a difference in the world. After all, her IQ is twice the sum of all the current White House/West Wing inhabitants. Same for her accomplishments.

$40 million a year? Yeah, it's my dream job too!

Think about it. A prominent African-American Woman as NFL Commish would alleviate a host of problems, and the owners could not oppose her on anything because they would be called racists or sexists.................

She expressed an interest in the job a long time ago.

[LIBERAL] Politicians and women’s groups were enraged
When are they NOT enraged?
And why stop at Condi Rice? Why not Martha Stewart, Nancy Pelosi, Rosie O'Donnell or Katie Couric?

To ask the obvious: Who the heck cares what Condi Rice thinks about football? Who is shocked by "domestic violence" committed by thugs on women who swarm around them willingly—before and after? Who, among athletes, with the history of sports being open to anyone with a library card, didn't know that slamming into other guys just as big as you could get you hurt and shorten your life?

No one, of course.

So, is this latest round of chick-i-fication attempts in football designed to distract everyone from the fact that chick-i-fication and the moral weakness that gives rise to it is what allowed black-thug culture to take over football and cause these problems to begin with?

The NFL took in $9 billion last year. It does not seem very troubled to me.

Sorry, she had her chance when she was Secretary of State. She blew it.

Any bets on whether those same people would be exploding in rage if she is nominated as VP in two years?

My $0.02:

1. If the owners get to decide, she has no chance.
2. She would be a great NFL Commissioner.
3. We would lose some great players that would be forced out of the game.
4. The owners would be upset about the loss of those great players.
5. See 1 above.

She’s a triple bonus - black, female and lesbo. Dumbest idea I’ve heard today. So far.

Never happen.

As part of the EEEEEEEVIL George W. Bush Administration, the NFL and it’s uber-PC crowd would no more allow this than they’d allow Limbaugh to own 4% of the St. Louis Rams.

But if you haven’t noticed, Donna Shalala is retiring from her job as President of the University of Miami....
