New Hampshire Senate race in dead heat

Scott Brown, the former senator from Massachusetts who moved to New Hampshire to run in a more friendly environment, appears to be in a dead heat with Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a new poll shows.

A CNN/ORC International poll out Monday finds Shaheen and Brown tied among likely voters, with both obtaining the support of 48% among 735 voters surveyed.

A close race could mean bad news for Democrats, who are struggling to maintain control of the Senate. Keeping the seat in the Democratic column is crucial if the party want to maintain a slim majority in the Senate.

This is going to get REALLY ugly. The TV ads going back and forth are almost funny. The local ABC station(the only network station in NH)is filled with their ads. I did not know Scott Brown was so tied to big oil and those evil Koch brothers(sarc).

We also have two very tight congressional races. The incumbent democrat women in these races are in for a tuff go.

Is that the one where Brown is suddenly in a tux?? I’ve seen them too here in MA. Pretty funny.

If we ever get around to another Constitutional Convention, permit me to suggest a Scott Brown Amendment:

Let's limit this guy's Senate "service" to one state. Any man who could lose to Elizabeth Warren, even in the land of the Massholes, should be eligible for exile ... not Senate candidacy.

What’s the difference between the two?

Brown gives lip service to a small number of convervative positions, but otherwise is the same as Shaheen (big government).

I live in a very strange state, all right - but this is very do-able.

Shaheen means a vote for Harry Reid staying as Majority Leader. That’s a pretty big difference, IMO.

That may be. I kind of tune them out. The dems are scared. That much is obvious. It will be interesting to watch the debates. Shaheen started with the negative ads very early in the primary season. They are trying to imply the carpetbagger image too. That Mass does not need three Senators. They must have forgot about Hillary and RFK among other dem carpetbaggers.

Neither ‘choice’ is worth anything. On one hand you have a dim liberal and on the other a backstabbing RINO from MA. Its a pathetic showing... Do either of these guys represent NH? I sure hope not.

Your hopes are about to be dashed, because one of them will win.

It seems to me that none of the Senators or Congress critters represent any state. They are in bed with the lobbyists - no time for their nickel and dime constituents - its all about their campaign coffers. Sorry if I sound jaded - I am sick of what has happened to our government. That includes both political parties.

Winning is not the same as representing. Oh yes, theyll certainly trot off to DC but that doesnt mean theyll represent us at home. In fact it pretty certain to not be the case.

OK, Brown is not a perfect candidate. I have not had a perfect candidate to cast my vote for in 25 years here in NH. Most of the time it is a choice between the lesser of two evils.
Romney was not perfect. However, he was 1000X better than Obama(I would have preferred Newt). Many Freepers here stated they would not cast a vote for Mitt. Maybe that sentiment cost him the election. We will never know for sure.

Brown WILL caucus with the Republicans. We can control what does and does not come up for vote in the Senate. We could also keep some crazy liberal off the Supreme Court.

As far as do either of these guys representing NH. NH is not the bastion of Yankee conservatism it was when I moved here in 1985. The state has become more liberal. People want more services from their government than they did 30 years ago. 1/3 of NH voters are registered as independents. They flip flop back and for and sway elections one way or the other. The biggest change is that so many women here in NH have turned into democrats. This is not a big union state. We also do not have many minorities. It is not easy to get on and stay on government assistance here in comparison to our neighboring states. However, it is still easier than it was 20 years ago.

The other major change to our voting block other than our wives and girlfriends is that the retirees from other states that moved here are more liberal. People always blame the Massholes, but that is not entirely correct. We have had an influx of retirees from the mid Atlantic states. They moved here and then complain that the real estate taxes on their lake front home are too high. They want an income tax because they no longer get a W2. So far, we have avoided that. Even most of the democrat governors have taken “the pledge” to veto an income or sales tax. Shaheen did in her first two terms. Maggie Hassen(our current dem governor)has also taken the pledge.

So, to summarize, it would be difficult to elect a real conservative here in NH. Even Kelly Ayotte has been a disappointment on immigration.

I doubt they represent NH conservatives, but they probably do represent the people who come out to vote.

They certainly don’t represent NH conservatives. Probably some that voted they do represent. Others just voted for the lesser of 2 evils b/c they felt they had to cast a vote.

Woodbutcher—— I strongly suspect Brown will pull a Jeffords if the Senate is more conservative... he can not be trusted

If Judge Gregg would support Kagen and Sotoymeyr... Brown will do the same or worse..

You are correct about the difficulty in getting a conservative passed the primary election... the open primary pretty much gives the democrats a full say in the Republican Primary. That is how a long list of mushy RINO’s keep winning primaries and loosing in the general election.
