The Pentagon has announced that it expects to train 5,000 Syrian rebels per year as part of President Obama's new campaign to battle Islamic State militants.
Details of the administration's $500 million plan to train and equip Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State began to surface Friday when Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby outlined the goals that U.S. military planners expected to achieve.

Do we get a say in this?
This is turning into a huge cluster....
I pray for our servicemen who have to do this job...
It never does....and we never learn... Kind'a makes you think all those failures might be happening on purpose...
But ISIS and at least one faction of Syrian Rebels just entered into a non-aggression pact.

Are the Kurds in Syria? I thought they were mainly in Iraq.
The Kurdish people reside in Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. I believe they are the largest ethnic group in the world without a state. In Syrian Kurdistan, the YPG (people’s protection units) have kept ISIS and Al-Qaeda out of their hair. They actually aim when firing weapons, and don’t scream for snackbars either.
Dear Members of the US Military: I am sorry that many of you are going to die because of this insane DIMocRAT administration of Clown Prince nobama.
We don't need another muslim "stan" in the middle east.
Active Duty ping.
Well Ethan, evidently you don’t know much about the Kurds. In the Iraqi Kurdish capitol of Erbil, there are shopping malls, beer gardens, night-clubs, liquor stores and other fun places. In fact, Iraqi Kurdistan was considered so safe that American troops deployed there could walk around without body armor and go grab a meal out! The Kurdish women DO NOT have to wear the hijab, niqab, or burqha, Kurdish women are actually RESPECTED more or less as equals to men. And Christians can live there without persecution. Oh, and if that weren’t enough, many Kurds are pro-Israel, and Israel is pro-Kurd!
The Kurds have proven themselves to be very different than their neighbors. A free independent Kurdistan wouldn’t be anything like the other “stans”.
Why aren’t we arming the Kurds with some heavy weapons?
I believe they tend not to like it much, unlike the Obungler, who would accept a nuclear strike, possibly several. I heard a rumor, I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard they have a Samson complex.
I never said Assad was good.
The war in Syria is about a gas pipeline only that Saudi Arabia wants, and Assad refused to sell to them. The Saudis want it in order to sell Gas to Europe like Russia was doing up until the entire Ukraine incident.
So when Saudi did not get what they want ....insert ISIS there proxy terrorist group to destabilize the area.
They will be dying so that Saudi Arabia can have a gas pipline in Syria to sell to Europe.
This has NOTHING to do with freedom.
The Globalist target stable Secular Middle Eastern States that cannot be bought off. Thus, they insert the Mujahideen/Al-Qaeda/FSA/The Rebels/ISIS/ISIL in order to destabilize region.
It’s a classic problem, reaction and solution at play. The Globalist are playing triple electronic Chess while many are still playing checkers.
We have had a habit of doing this. First, we trained Cuban pilots. Now our enemies. In the 70s, we trained Iranian pilots, now our enemies. Are we seeing a pattern here?
"Kurdistan" is land stolen from Christians and it was founded by genocide. I'm not ok with it. Perhaps these historical realities deserve more consideration than beer-gardens.
By the way, do you support an independent Christian state in the region?
Teach the free Syrians to use military arms and ordnance, watch them get defeated, and them allow thousands of these militant Muslims to immigrate to the USA when they lose to ISIS.
Vietnam all over again, plus more Muslim terrorists living on US soil.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?/Sarc.
Yep. Free housing, food, medical, college
AND free reign to terrorize us (seems like our leaders are doing everything they can to make us all dhimmis)
ISIS wants to destroy the Kaba in Mecca, considering that the Kaba is the REAL cash cow for the Saudi’s (will be there long after the oil is gone), why the hell would they support a group that wants to destroy the holiest site in Islam? ISIS also want to destroy the ruling House of Saud, so the idea that Saudi Arabia currently supports ISIS is ridiculous. The Saudis may have created ISIS, but they certainly don’t support them now.
