Senators ask NFL to institute no-tolerance policy for domestic abuse (Lifetime ban)

Sixteen female senators from both parties called on the National Football League Thursday to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence. The senators said they were "shocked and disgusted" by a video showing former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee and knocking her unconscious. "Tragically, this is not the only case of an NFL player allegedly assaulting a woman even within the last year," the senators wrote in a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The senators said they were deeply concerned that a new policy Goodell announced last month would let a player commit a violent act and return to the field after a six-game suspension. "If you violently assault a woman, you shouldn't get a second chance to play football in the NFL," the letter said.

What the hell is The Senate doing trying to tell The NFL how to run it’s business???

The Senate can’t run it’s own “business” very well.

Since they were not at home and not married, this would not be classified as “domestic abuse”.

Instead it would be more properly defined as a Bar Room Brawl.

I wonder if any of these 16 would’ve demanded Ted Kennedy be banned from politics and fired from his senate post when he murdered JoAnne Kopekney?????

“Just the NFL? Why not all major sports? I’ve heard that there has also been domestic violence in the WNBA.”

Why stop with just domestic violence, then. How about the conviction of ANY crime? Where should they stop???

"Tragically, this is not the only case of an NFL player allegedly assaulting a woman even within the last year,"

The operative word is "allegedly". Boxer and her little band of outraged female Senators are way out of their league on this one. Domestic violence in general should be condemned by the sisters as it is by most civilized people, not specifically the allegations towards NFL players. Dog fighting, assault and drug convictions have not deterred players from returning to the field after serving their sentences. Holding the hammer by which a female can "allege" that she suffered a violent act should not be conclusive on the part of NFL; Due process is a result of the court system.

Solely based on the video, Ray Rice should be criminally charged. Now that he is married to the victim, would she be compelled to testify?

There are sixteen women senators? Who knew! I’m so glad they took time from their busy schedules to address this.

Why just sports? Why not any job?

Here we go!

The entire world is on fire, Ebola is spreading, Russia is like a drunken teenager with car keys and our Congress sticks their nose into the NFL.

My God this is broke.

Next they will be grilling Dr. Oz. Oh, they have already done that.

Excuse me while I get this bad taste out of my mouth.

If I recall correctly Ray Lewis was never charged in that case, and went on to become a Baltimore sports icon.
