American Christians Are Booing Ted Cruz, Too
Daily Caller ^ | 09/12/2014 | Matt. K. Lewis

Posted on 09/12/2014 7:09:47 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Ted Cruz’s commitment to the state of Israel is sincere and beyond reproach. So too, it seems, is his commitment to grandiosity and self-promotion.

With that in mind, having read the Washington Free Beacon’s reporting about Hezbollah supporters being featured at the Middle East Christian conference he would address Wednesday night, the choice to take a public stand for Israel – a move which got him booed off stage! – probably seemed like a slam dunk.

How could defending Israel possibly turn out badly? On top of everything else, it would show boldness and courage.

That was my initial take, too — and it may still turn out that way. This high-profile incident may very well help him amongst evangelicals in Iowa. But, it turns out, not so much amongst Christian opinion leaders inside the beltway.

Mollie Hemingway and Michael Wear were among those who weighed in. But this from the New York Times Ross Douthat that really got me thinking:

@McCormackJohn Telling M.E. Christians they “have no greater ally than the Jewish state,” the line that touched off the booing, is risible.

— Ross Douthat (@DouthatNYT) September 11, 2014

This is an important, if subtle, distinction — and one that conservatives should be familiar with. Douthat is suggesting that the crowd wasn’t booing Israel, instead, they were booing Cruz for playing politics — for having the audacity to lecture them about their own business.

Ted Cruz made a valid point. Where would Middle East Christians do better? In Israel or their current country?

Oh, the all important "inside the beltway" Christian opinion leaders. The ones who agree with the boos and catcalls.

Are there any Christians left inside the beltway?

The piling on continues. These secondary media outlets will keep working to generate some kind of wedge between Cruz and conservatives. My understanding was that one of his nose hairs was out of place, as well.

Yes, the same “Christian” leaders that support abortion and birthcontrol on demand and the gay agenda. THOSE “Christian” leaders.

They were “Palestinian Christians”. And the host later rebuked them (if I understood a subsequent article).

The media is trying to run with the “Ted Cruz booed by Christians” meme.

Christian opinion leaders inside the beltway

Only apostates there, with rainbow vestments. I'm sure V. Gene Robinson was booing, too.

Christians have no greater ally than the Jewish state

This statement is true, beyond reproach. In a very simplistic sense, the only difference between Christians and Jews is that when Jesus the Messiah returns, as He promised, the Jewish people think it will be his first time on Earth.

Saint Pope John Paul II: "You are our beloved brothers ... you are our elder brothers" in the faith of Abraham.

This article from the Daily Caller is total bunk. From my perspective, the phrase "Christian opinion leaders inside the beltway" is an oxymoron, a contradiction in terms.

Like Nigel Farage of the UK, Ted Cruz is not afraid of bigots and leftists and is willing to take them on anywhere, anytime.

Ted Cruz is awesome.

This story is really a proxy attack on Ted Cruz’s run for the Republican nomination for President.

We will be hearing more from the RINO trolls in the future.

I don't know what this guy saw, but I watched the entire episode and Cruz was heckled when he made statements supporting Israel. I'm not familiar with the group that he was speaking to, but they came across as just another group of anti-Semites.

I admire Cruz for walking off the stage. At least he has the courage of his convictions, a very rare commodity in DC these days.
