Interesting in its lack of details. What were they doing? How far from the carrier were they? Was there a collision?

If a ship gets in trouble for some reason, any reason, no reason, the Captain is held accountable and is almost always disciplined/demoted by a Court Martial.
I don’t see how these jets with all their electronic warning systems can collide unless the pilots made serious miscalculations.
Does anyone know if pilots face the same sort of draconian accountability as ship Captains?

Seems to be the missing info, right? Shot down by NK? Disappeared like MH 370? Hopefully it is a tragic accident caused by human error, but call me suspicious until more info is released.

Formation flying is somewhat dangerous at times. Yes to a degree that they were responsible they get a reprimand.Draconian? What would you do to an employee who destroyed a 35 million dollar factory through his negligence? Promote him? Give him a week off? Don't think so.

I had a mental image of them in formation and bumping into each other by accident. Then I noticed they are from different squadrons... so not being a vet myself, do planes from different squadrons fly with each other in formations?

Indo-Asia-Pacific region per the article, “western Pacific”.
I don’t know if it was close to NK.

Officers cannot be demoted by a court-martial panel. Other that that, you’re right.
