Ozone is a naturally generated form of oxygen.
It is generated in two ways:
1. High voltage discharge (lightning)
2. Ultraviolet light
When either of these occur in an O2 environment, O3 is generated.
However, O3 is extremely unstable. It naturally reverts back to O2 by shedding 1 of it’s oxygen atoms.
Interaction with other chemicals in the air can accelerate the breakdown of O3 into O2... but most man made chemicals never reach the ozone layer to have any impact whatsoever.
So why the hole in the ozone layer over the south pole???
Simple... THERES NO FLIPPING SUNLIGHT THERE!!!
The only way that the ozone layer can be destroyed is to put out the sun for crying out loud!
It’s amazing what people buy into these days without doing just a little of their own research.
Well I am not willing to write off CFC as having negative impact on Ozone, but it is important that they discovered the hole the first time they looked... so it is true that the hole could have always been there, and it was not the result of any human action.
We have no evidence whatsoever that there hasn’t been a hole in the ozone layer over the south pole since the age of the dinosaurs.
The thing that cracks me up the most is the whackos say that everything is going to die from pollution in the cities and then say that pollution is “punching a hole” in the ozone layer...well...which is it? There is no ozone (or O2) “layer” and all of that pollution they see has no effect on the upper atmosphere because it is too dense, they would never see the haze if it was in the upper atmosphere.
I did that recently when I realized I hadn't hear of acid rain for over two decades.......
