Kim comes out for independence: North Korea declares support for Alex Salmond

Alex Salmond has received an unlikely source of international support – after North Korea came out in favour of a ‘Yes’ vote.

The repressive communist state is keen to develop trade links with Edinburgh – because they ‘like the taste of Scotch whisky’.

North Korea’s embrace of Mr Salmond comes after Russian separatists in Ukraine embarrassed the SNP after launching an online campaign to support independence.

But the support of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un will be even more unwelcome for Mr Salmond, who is battling to overturn a six point deficit in the polls with just seven days to go until the referendum on Thursday.

But Choe Kwan-il, managing editor of the North Korea-backed newspaper Choson Sinbo told The Telegraph newspaper: ‘I think that independence would be a very positive thing for Scotland.

The Tokyo-based publication provides news to an estimated 200,000 Koreans who live in Japan but swear allegiance to Pyongyang.

Mr Choe said: ‘We have not reported on the vote in Scotland yet, but we will after it has happened.

‘I believe that every person has the right to be a member of an independent nation, to have sovereignty, to live in peace and to enjoy equality.

‘And I believe that a majority of Scots feel the same and will vote for independence.’

He added: ‘I believe independence will be positive as it will encourage personal exchanges and provide both countries with business chances.

‘North Korea is rich in natural resources and we like the taste of Scotch whisky, so we can be beneficial to each other.’

The North Korean intervention comes after Russian-backed separatists in Ukraine came out in support of Scottish independence.

It comes after Mr Salmond praised Vladimir Putin.

Think we need more evidence of Salmond being a demagogue? All the tyrants are putting up for him.

Salmonds argument seems to be - “vote for Independence and me as your new rule, and you Scots will have EVEN MORE welfare and government jobs when we’re free from the English. Never mind that we can’t join the Euro, and can’t use the pound to print more money, and a new Scottish currency won’t be worth a damn - but we’ve got lots of oil, or something like that.”

And at least 40% of the dumb@sses up there believe him.

Hey now! You probably only said that because you find a combination of sheep stomach, entrails, onions, herbs, and oats somehow unappetizing. After a few or more drams ye weel ne care.

Correct. It’s all about handouts.

And how are they really “free from the English” when Scottish kings have ruled from Buckingham Palace starting with the Union of the Crowns to the Hanoverians? Even Elizabeth II is linked to the Stuarts.

Are you sure? I love Kim Chee and think it (and its flavoring) improves the taste of many things. But haggis.... haggis may be well beyond redemption.
