While Nato sat down for a summit to decide what to do about the war in Ukraine, and Vladimir Putin negotiated a ceasefire deal with Kiev, Russian society recoiled from reports about secret funerals of soldiers killed in Ukraine: missing sons, calls from husbands begging their wives to save them from battle, bodies with missing limbs arriving in coffins to Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg, Pskov, Murmansk, Dagestan and other regions of Russia. The death toll for Russian soldiers jumped to more than 200 soldiers in a few days, between August 12th and September 2nd, in a war that was, officially, not happening.
While the Russian leaders stuck to their denials, mobile phone chats and social media forums fill up with images of the country's artillery and Grad rocket launchers rolling across Ukrainian border. Russian internet users across the country watched videos of army mothers and wives covering their wet-with-tears faces with both hands, begging Putin to free their loved ones in Gods name, as well as video interviews with soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces.

The wrapper is coming off Putin’s war, Russians are starting to hear the truth.
Empires are built on blood. Since Putin’s supporters love empire more than liberty or justice, Russians will be tickled pink to pay in blood with their sons. I know Putin’s fan club. They’re in love with him, and they’re proud of Russia’s mothers for raising sons that Putin can allow to be killed for his glory. I’ve seen their posts.
Russia carried out a successful test of its new submarine-launched Bulava intercontinental missile, which can carry a nuclear warhead.
"We need a reliable and complete assessment of the potential threats to Russia's military security. For each of these threats a sufficient, adequate response should be found," he told a Kremlin meeting of government officials from the defence sector.
"First of all, we are talking about creating a rational series of assault capabilities including maintaining a guaranteed solution to the task of nuclear deterrence."
He said Russia must ensure it develops high-precision weapons in the next few years but added: "Someone might want to start a new arms race. We are not going to take part in that, of course."

Surprise, surprise she’s a Ukrainian sympathizer.
I don’t think anyone outside of Russia like Putin.
People admire a strong leader, and he is that, and Obama does not.
Plus Putin understands the Mohammedan threat, while Obama is likely a closet Mohammedan to the extent he has any religion outside of socialism and race.
In short, you are detecting a pining for a real leader in the USA, not support of Putin.
Putin is not just the major enemy of the US, the West, Ukraine, the free world but of the Russian people too. They are the ones dying not Putin and his thug buddies he put in power. Will Russians rise up and counter Putin? Will such a grassroots in Russia grow enough to turn the military against Putin?
What is "Blackwater" in Russian?
Yea how dare she write the truth...how unRussian!
Chechen Islamists mercenaries being paid by Putin to kill Ukrainians.
Absolutely pathetic.
I keep thinking of the Russo/Finnish War of 1939/40. The Russkies didn’t do too good there at first. It wasn’t until Stalin just overwhelmed them with tons of firepower.
Really? Then why is Putin so supportive of Iran and now opposing our actions against ISIS?
Putin finds it convenient to whip up the Chechen menace in Russia, and support Assad in Syria, that's all.
As far as he is concerned, the more attacks the West faces from Islamists, the better.
Right now Putin’s biggest obstacle is the Russian people finding out what he is doing and why? Fighting fascists in the West is not working anymore.
You don’t want to address the article this thread is on for good reason. Pathetic!
The Russians respect only strength. At the present time, the US is weak. We need to wake up soon.
With NATO as weak as it is Putin could move militarily a long way west and north and south, (east?) Will the Russian people say Nyet!
Good thing they're so accurate, thorough, and unbiased.
