Thoughts on 9/11 - 2014
NorCal Blogs | 9/10/2014 | Jack Lee

Tomorrow is 9/11, a bloody date in world history and the blackest day in American history. 2,996 innocent people were murdered. Tens of thousands of family members were never the same again. Literally, America changed in that day forever. It was a despicable act committed by despicable people. We should never forget what happened that day and who did it and why, lest we go through it again.

911 the towers9/11 ought to be a day of shame for Muslims around the world, but is it really? I sure don't see it, if it is. There's not a lot dialog suggesting empathy. Oddly, if there's a dialog it's turned away from 9/11 to something that is critical about us or it goes to concerns over virtually non-existent backlash or how misunderstood the Muslim religion is by us infidels. We're the problem? But, the fact remains, the 9/11 plot was carried out by many Muslims with diverse personalities and backgrounds, but they were all united behind the words in the Koran. Under normal conditions this should be a stain on any religion, but the feelings among the broader Muslim population is very mixed isn't it? I remember those scenes of dancing in the streets the day of 9/11.

Typically, we tend think of terrorist threats as belonging to Al Qaeda and now ISIS, but this isn't always true. Many acts devastating acts of terrorism were previously committed by Muslim radicals with no formal connection to any known terrorist groups. This makes them the most dangerous of all, because they are off our radar. We simply can't predict when and where they will strike, only that they will as evidenced by the Fort Hood shootings, the Boston bombing, the attack on the recruiting office in Times Square, the beltway sniper attacks in Columbus and many others attacks.

Fortunately, we have that fat-rat KSM in custody and Osama bin Laden is dead, but hundreds, perhaps thousands more, remain at large who are just as fanatical, just as lethal and just as devious. And they wish do us harm. They exist among the mainstream Muslim population wherever Muslims live and that means they here. The radicals represent a continuous, lethal threat due to their recruitment and willingness to inflict harm by whatever means on any target of opportunity. For our counterterrorism agency this about the numbers and probability, call it risk management. That's all, it's not Islamophobia, but the numbers are enough for the prudent to be cognizant of the potential threats and to be ever watchful. Things could get out of hand very quickly if even 5% of the Muslim population decides Allah wants them to wage jihad against the infidels.

There are 1.5 billion Muslims world-wide and 3.4 million live in the United States and it's absolutely assured that a certain percentage of this huge number will become active terrorists and history says I'm right. There is no reason to think the future will be any different, unless we see a fundamental change in this religion. If anything the motivation for extremism is only growing stronger with regional conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Libya and in many other African nations that subscribe to strict Sharia law. But, because we're Americans and we embrace and respect all races, all religions and all ethnicities we tend to view the world through our friendly eyes. Reality says there's a lot of people in the world who do not share our kind nature and hate us enough to do us harm. We have a lot of trouble accepting this, and we sometimes find ourselves in harms way because of it.

Back to 9/11, terrorists of all ilk strive for notoriety to inflict maximum damage far beyond the scene of their crime, that much is a given. This makes 9/11 a likely time for another attack and the US (or the UK) the likely target. The fact that 3.4 million Muslims live in America, makes the threat a high probability. But, the day they choose could be Ramadan, Hajj, Eid-ul-Adha or any number of significant dates. The NSA, CIA, FBI and many other agencies track these days and monitor the net and phone chatter around the world in order to postulate probabilities for another attack. Indications are something is up, but where? If we know, we're not saying.

We hope 9/11 is never repeated, but we know there will always be those who will try trump what Osama did. As 9/11 approaches again, heightened security around the western world is now in place. ISIS and Al Qaeda have made their threats...now we wait and see.

Never forget - never forgive (and always be heads up).

13 years too late, but I tried creating a 9-11 or 9/11 bookmark. Didn’t work. It created 911. Is there a 9-11 bookmark?

I would not expect to be struck again in the same way as we were on 9/11.

The terrorists do seem to have more airliners to play with next time thanks to the mess in Libya.

There is no way for a rogue airliner to get close to a western city, everyone is ready for that scenario.

But there are targets that are the equivalent of a skyscraper filled with helpless western victims. These targets are cruise ships on the high seas. They are very large and very vulnerable and can be utterly destroyed by a heavy jet flying into them.

It would be nearly impossible to protect these ships at sea. They are like floating skyscrapers filled with people.. plodding along at a snail's pace far from help.

We all need to pray for protection from these monsters who wish us harm :-(

Nothing to stop a fleet of cargo jets, however.

I've been thinking about that. Friends of mine are cruising the Mediterranean in October, with stops in Alexandria and Antalya. Seemed like a great idea when they made the reservations months ago before anyone heard of the IslamicState.

But, really, who wants to let their lives grind to a halt because of fear?

The fact that all the news stories about the Middle East and the killing of Christians there have virtually disappeared says a lot to me.

Something else is coming, and I wonder if media know that it is.

The saddest thing is that if something similar to 9/11 should happen while the pretender in chief is still in office, he’ll be cheering and celebrating the same as all those people did in the Middle East on the original 9/11. He might not do it on live TV, but he will be inside his personal quarters.

I disagree with the first paragraph. America has NOT changed. We’re back to the “let’s all get along” bunch we were before we were attacked. In fact, now more than ever people “have muslim friends”.

The news outlets probably got the word from the White House that covering those stories was giving Islam a bad wrap. And like Obama said tonight - ISIS isn’t Islam anyway!

“...and the blackest day in American history.”

No, it was not! The “blackest” day in American history was when Obama was elected...and I am not talking about the color of his skin.

That was the day that a dagger was stuck into the heart of the America we once knew and history will certainly reflect that in the future.

The events of 911 created thousands of casualties; the election of Obama ripped the liberties and freedoms of millions of Americans right out of their hands.

Muslim minorities might sometimes [but not always] try to be peaceloving and even convince themselves that their religion is peaceful. But history says otherwise — there is NO muslim nation where ‘infidels’ are safe. Turkey had a good run for a while when their futurist military launched anti-theocracy coups now and then. That failed. I mean, there might be a few tiny exceptions — Kuwait and such, maybe? But not A SINGLE muslim nation with any serious population.

It is amazing though how obsessed they are with planes. They could attack us in countless ways, but they do tend to focus on a few. It’s an ugly poker game isn’t it? We can’t cover every contingency.

Amen to your post. The day we elected this terrorist hugging pussbag was the death knell of the country. If you would have told any American on 9-12-2001 that we would have elected a Islamic follower, that person would have laughed in your face.

I didn’t think I would cry today. But I did. Mostly because 13 years ago was such a sad day.

I cried even harder knowing that absolutely nothing was learned from 13 years ago today. Instead, we have catered to the people who were behind that tragic day 13 years ago.
Many young men and women have died avenging that enemy since that day. And many have forgotten them and continue to disrespect those that still will make the ultimate sacrifice.

I am just left with a deep sadness.
