A fair chunk of the early Scottish migrants settled in the south and midatlantic (rebel) states. Many have wanted independence from centralized government for a long time.

The Scottish nationalists aren't against a centralized, intrusive government. They're socialists. They think the UK isn't socialist enough, and they have that whole left wing "national liberation movement" thing going on. Plus they want to submerge Scotland into the EU.
What is it with so many conservatives that they can't believe there is such a thing as white left wing nationalism? Where does this freaking Celt-worship come from?
If there were two people in history I could go back in time and beat the hell out of for personal reasons, it would have to be Oliver Cromwell and Lord Fairfax.
But they are part of the reason my fathers side of the family started coming over here in the 1620’s.
