Can’t you do the sound separately and add it as a track? Any good or even a bad video editor allows that. Audacity is a pretty good sound editor

Can’t you do the sound separately and add it as a track? Yep. That's what I suggested above. I think Maceman is suffering from a "tyranny of choice". There's so many options, it's hard to get started!
