I would think you’d have to be a pretty darn good aim with wasp spray, too, to hit the face/eyes...much better than you’d have to be with shotgun. Doesn’t the wasp spray come out in a stream?

Yes, and if you're fumbling around with that can in the dark, there's a good possibility you could get the sprayer pointed the wrong way and end up spraying yourself in the face.
Having managed two gun shops in my past, I too prefer the shotgun, loaded with birdshotnot buckshot, as the best home protection choice for untrained persons. For my own use, I like a nice slow Mack Truck, a .45 ACP.
For those to hoplophobic to use a gun, Pepperspray Is a lot better than nothing. . . and the higher the heat the better.
