Minimum Wage: Fast-food workers engage in a nationwide "Fight for 15" while ignoring the economic reality of higher prices, fewer jobs and the sawing off of that first rung on the economic ladder of success.

In a scene repeated in various cities across the country last Thursday, roughly 50 people were arrested as they protested in front of two Chicago-area fast-food restaurants as part of the push for a $15-per-hour minimum wage for fast-food workers, what they call a "living wage." These protests, organized by the infamous purple shirts of the Service Employees International Union, simply ignore economic reality.

It is a testimony to the economic ignorance taught in our nation's schools, supplemented by mass media misinformation, that these protesters believe that wages come from business owners' private stashes and not from the revenues from customers who buy that business' goods and services. Basic economic principles have been supplanted by demands for social justice.

Give them the raise. The working poor are among the hardest working people in America

You have it exactly ass backward.

This is not about poor people. This is about union contract wages tied to the minimum wage. Union raises at the expense of the working poor. Do you think SEIU is championing this to benefit the entry level workers? They're feathering their own bed - entry level be damned...

“...sawing off of that first rung on the economic ladder of success.:

They sawed that off back at $7.25/hour. I’m hard-pressed to find anyone in this uber-liberal ‘haven’ that’s worth even THAT much to me!

That $15/hour minimum wage is being demanded by the SEIU who is using these people as pawns due to union membership tanking out. No members no money!

Once the SEIU has their claws in them, they’ll STILL be working for $7.25/hour and the remainder will be Union Dues going directly into the SEIU coffers and then on to the DNC slush funds.

Seriously? You don’t get that?

Do you understand anything about economics at all?

It is the government’s job to set wages based on an ignorant whim of uneducated lazy liberals?

What are you doing on FR?

“In the era of Obama, most Americans are ignoring reality in one way or another.”

In the era of Obama, economic realities have changed.

While I oppose their effort, it is worth noting that many of the people wanting $15 per hour are not just starting out in life. Many of them have been “downsized” from real jobs, can’t find another, and are actually trying to make a living at Mickey D’s.

That is one economic reality.

Another is that Mickey D’s cannot afford to pay $15 per hour.
